Verizon is piss poor around the Seattle area during the day and is almost unusable to the point of having to switch to 3G to get anything to load. I believe the CEO even admitted they messed up by letting the network get so bad in some areas.
The Virginia Beach/Norfolk market is another they let get really bad.

3G speeds here rarely break 512kbps, and it's not uncommon to see LTE speeds in the 3-5mbps range.

It's also not uncommon to see areas that only have 1-2 bars of LTE coverage, which is weird, because if you switch your phone back to 3G, Verizon rarely has coverage under 4 bars.

IMO, they did a piss-poor initial job of deploying LTE in this area (which is VA's largest metro area) three years ago. It started out adequate, and all its done since is get slower and slower and slower. Verizon is only now coming back and starting to patch the area back up.
