Desktop class app… that is not a is feature, we had some desktop class app before ( luma fusion to name one )

Final Cut and logic… those are in to make the list looks longer as those are the same thing as saying desktop class apps ( and again they were possible even before ).

Hover mode of course is iPad only, the iPhone does not support the pencil…

We had support for monitor before but was lacklustre at best so they just fixed it, it’s not a new feature.

Yes we had some updates on iPad OS, but underwhelming anyways.
- Desktop class apps is not just about the type of apps available, it’s about new system UI optimizations apps can use to make them more capable and desktop-like. Such as the customizable toolbar framework.

- Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro actually couldn’t have worked before (maybe Logic Pro could have), because the iPad lacked the RAM and Virtual Memory Swap capabilities to run Final Cut Pro. And it’s not just another way of saying “Desktop-Class Apps”, because, as we’ve already demonstrated, that’s about new UI Kit functions that are available for ALL iPadOS apps, that allow for more desktop-class features such as customizable toolbars and the like.

- As to external monitor support, all we had before was the ability to mirror the display, which is not really full-fledged external monitor support. Full-fledged monitor support allows you to EXTEND your workspace by using a separate set of apps on the external monitor vs what’s on your iPad. This is a major improvement, and new feature, not just a “minor update” as you’d suggest.

And if you find all of these improvements to be “underwhelming” then that’s fine for you, but these are actually major improvements, and make a big difference for many people’s use-cases.

So you agree they fixed the external display feature… wich was bummer from the beginning.

And you say app that couldn’t have worked… while saying logic could have.

Ok.

No, they added a new external display feature in way of being able to extend the display as a separate one. I think you can still mirror it the same way as before, so it’s a new, separate feature, not a fixed one. So what we had before (and still have as a feature) is Screen Mirroring, now we have a brand new feature in addition to that in External Monitor Support. It may be seen as a “related” feature, but it’s a brand new feature, just like Stage Manager is brand new even though it could be considered related to Splitview and Slideover.

And I’m saying that one of those apps (Logic Pro) MIGHT have been able to work on an iPad (but not iPadOS) before as far as the hardware goes, but DIDN’T because it didn’t work with older versions of iPadOS prior to some of the changes that have been made recently, and it wasn’t re-designed for touch and released as an iPad version until recently. And with the changes made to iPadOS recently, that made both of those apps possible to run.

Are the standard iPads slowing down the iPadOS development? Just checked and the newest gen from last year just got 4gb ram. The predecessor from 2021 still has 3GB of ram.

There are a lot of new features that are exclusive to the M1 iPads. So I don’t know that the base models are completely holding everything back. But I think that the iPad’s actually gaining a lot of functionality very quickly, this is a bigger update then people make it out to be. 👍🏻

I'd hope that the 2GB iPads are at least helping to stop iPadOS at the core from becoming bloated - they can just limit which features run on the older iPads
