Does anybody know of a good skin, keyboard protectors, or anything that will protect/enhance the computer w/o ruining it's appearance and adding bulk? I really want to protect my rMBP

They don't really exist. I've never gotten the appeal of the keyboard protectors; they ruin the screen. Can't tell you how many laptops I've seen in college that have greasy patterns stuck on the screen because of keyboard guards on the laptop.

Get a sleeve (just ordered on through SFBags), and just be careful. And just be careful. If you're careful and smart with how you handle it, a MacBook can last 5 years, no problem. Without a case or keyboard guard.

I must say that the prices on some of the more designer style Apple bags are staggering, which is heart-breaking for someone like myself who would very much like to "buy into the hype". ;)

Someone should tell these people that it requires quite a bit of finesse with my wife to get all the toys I already have. A $270.00 designer bag very well may be the end of my glory days

That is why it is good to be the wife that controls all the money so you can pick what you want without scrutiny ;)

I've bought a few bags for different purposes but I also don't do leather so my options tend to be cheaper.

My problem is exactly the opposite, lol. I have had numerous great bags, but my taste really prefer a nice leather bag which ALL seem to be pricey!

So I've settled for a more utilitarian setup currently, but always have my head on a swivel for a nicely price leather bag.

I do not take very good care of my electronics. They generally get damaged.
This time I intend to protect the MBP as much as possible.

Hard Case:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0069IYAA8/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00

Keyboard Cover (gonna try it out)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0081K4UAW/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00

Cooling Pad (for overheat protection in windows 7 gaming)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002NU5V4A/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00

InvisibleSHEILD: (Must have for trade in merchants or to boost resale value)

http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield...a-display-2012-cases-covers-skins-shields.php

Anti-Glare Screen Protector:

http://www.gearzap.com/capdase-aris-screenguard-macbook-pro-15-with-retina-screen-protector.html

When it comes out.

Then ill probably fit that all in a massive laptop backpack (hoping the one I have will suffice).
Perhaps I can also slide in my Incase sleeve in around the RMBP before I put it in the pelican?
And thats it. Maximum protection for ~200 dollars (not including the Incase sleeve and the backpack.)

Keyboard protectors can be used safely so long as you remember to place a small, soft cloth in between the keyboard protector (on the keyboard) and the screen. My 2009 Macbook Pro shipped with a small, black cloth that I eventually lost. I was able to replace it with other screen wipes, however.

You should always try to remember to put the cloth back in place, but you can wipe the finger grease off of the monitor with a bit of screen cleaner solution.

Admittedly, however, the amount of finger grease that gets on the monitor seems to be more with a keyboard protector than less. So, if you don't take time to care for it, it can look gross to the person sitting next to you.

Avoid the ZAGG InvisibleSHIELD at all costs. I installed one on my MBP and it yellowed and dirt got in the corners. And I very, very carefully installed it but nonetheless it didn't last very long. Same thing with the "free" replacement they sent me. I've had good luck with Wrapsol, and I've heard good things about bestskinsever.

As for myself, I plan to get the 15" laptop folio from Hard Graft. Very difficult to not just buy ten things on their store (want a billfold, iPad sleeve, and maybe a bag from them), though it helps that they're all pretty expensive.

hi, just wondering if you purchased the folio yet. i'm considering it as well but would love to hear your review on it before i take the plunge. also, are you planning to put the sleeve inside another bag? just wondering about the folio's real-life bulkiness.

thanks!

I'm using the Tucano Second Skin Microfiber.

http://www.tucanousa.com/shop/microfiber-for-mb-15-4.html

I like it so far. It's thin. The inside is nice. I it comes with a nice microfiber cloth that is the size of the keyboard. I just cover it up every time I close it (Although its really easy to forget sometimes.)

Only thing is, I don't think its water proof. Maybe that was something I should have considered when I looked into sleeves.

I want an hard shell again but am turned off by the bulkiness of it. Plus it takes away from the design.
I only use my laptop at home... so we'll see.

1. Moshi Keypad cover - One of the best and extremely thin.
http://www.moshimonde.com/product/clearguard-mb.aspx

2. Waiting for the trackpad and palm guard to come out for my retina.

http://www.moshimonde.com/product/palmguard.aspx

3. I need a girly case for when I go somewhere (who knows where) so I'll be on etsy looking for one. :) I love handmade items.

I support Moshi and Powersupport. They have quality stuff. Only place where I'll buy from. I need to do more research on the other brands.

I've actually reconsidered. I'm thinking I'll probably just get the XPocket MacBook Sleeve to put in a regular backpack, until I can afford their All-Gray 3Fold Multi-Use Bag for full-time laptop carrying.

I just ordered my MBPr last week.. it's going to be my first new machine in years (and first Mac ever) and I want to treat it well.. That being said, I'm a college student (studying graphic design, of course) and I'm worried about my machine getting beat up traveling to class, etc. Right now, I've ordered a soft case but am still considering a plastic shell, screen protector and keyboard cover. Overkill, I know but I'm going this far into a machine why not protect it?

Question is of course then, which pieces to order? Splash claims that their 15.4" screen protector will fit the 15.4" Retina but I don't believe that is true. Any one know for sure?

What about shells? Any one heard of these guys, http://www.i-blason.com/i-Blason-Macbook-Retina-Display-Release/dp/B008CGQH4W?traffic_src=froogle&utm_medium=organic&utm_source=froogle ?? Or better to stick with someone like Speck?

Thanks for your help!

I'm looking for some accessories for the Retina Macbook pro to keep it in new condition. Any suggestions?

what protection am i using? a chocolate one  :p

lol, I'm using

a Colcasac.com Juan Valdez sleeve
http://www.colcasac.com/macbook-sleeve/juan-valdez-macbook-sleeve/

a trackpad+palmguard protector
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130724079841#ht_2599wt_1144

a keyboard skin
http://www.ebay.com/itm/15061032289...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_8784wt_1144

an apple usb superdrive
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD564ZM/A

now looking for an external usb 3.0 drive.

and make sure you buy the thinnest available(0.1mm) skin only, there are thicker ones too which ruin the appeal, for the 0.1mm ones you won't even notice its there, just see the pics in the link.

also, make sure you buy TPU skin and not silicon one, silicon one is more sticky and white-ish, tpu is thinner, more transparent kind.

P.S. none of these are my listing, I'm not even situated in the country from where these items ship.

Even though I don't drink coffee, I love the Juan Valdez Colcasac.

I have the Crumpler Flight Moth bag and a Brown Colcasac. I also have a Rickshaw laptop sleeve but I may use that for my other computer instead. I may need to order a new Rickshaw sleeve to match my Crumpler bag (grey outside/turquoise interior).

I'm also a fan of the BookBook cases BUT they are leather and leather skeeves me out. I've asked them about non-leather options and they said they had looked into it as an option. I'd so buy one if they did.

good plan! why is that i want all of their products?! ughh

I KNOW, RIGHT?! I want, like 5 things from there. Their stuff is so classy I almost want to re-do my entire wardrobe to match the classiness of their accessories and stop wearing jeans and t-shirts all the time.

Wow, thanks for the link! That company makes some excellent looking products. But unfortunately they also make my wallet a bit thinner…well, a lot thinner :)

The only thing I have purchased specifically for my rMBP (I already have a bag) is a custom Zagg skin for the lid of the notebook...
