Why does my iPhone not adjust its time when I return to UK from France?

So I drove to France today and my phone went forward an hour as expected.. I drove back and it’s still on French time… and I crossed the border like 2 hours ago…

I have a feeling if I switch to airplane mode and back again it will update but any idea why that’s the case..?

Edit: yes going into airplane mode immediately fixed it…

Exactly the same situation today - had to flick airplane mode on and off to update the time…
