I am planning on buying a sim-free unlocked iPhone XR, to upgrade from my iPhone 8 Plus. But will the SIM card that is in my iPhone 8 Plus work with the iPhone XR? Do they have different technologies that make them not work with each other?

Also, just as a hypothetical, could you use a SIM card from an iPhone 6 Plus in an iPhone XR?

Let's just say as a hypothetical. There are some rumors suggesting that Apple will have 5G in the 2020 iPhones. If that is true, and I buy an unlocked iPhone at that time, then would a SIM card from an iPhone 8 Plus work in a phone that has 5G networking?

Hard to say. Who knows. It might not be know until a year from now when 5t rolls out and people may or may not need to change sims.

In most cases the SIM card is just account information. Whether 3G/4G/5G

But wouldn’t an older SIM card limit data speeds since the iPhone XR has different cellular bands compared to the iPhone 8 Plus?

It will not have any issues.

I'm buying an iPhone xr but i already have a 6s I'm doing a trade in. will the simcard from my 6s work in my xr?

Yes. Pull it out of your 6S and put it in your new phone and save the activation fee!

I have done this with my last three phones.

With the new iPhones being introduced this fall, I think I will switch from the XR to whatever iPhone is the successor to the iPhone XR. If I buy it sim-free and unlocked, should the sim card that was from my iPhone 8 Plus work in the new iPhone, or are there rumors that Apple will use new sim-card technology?

Hello. I'm new here! My iPhone XR didn't come with sim card, my old iPhone 8plus sim card doesn't fit in my XR! Oh, I'm on straight talk.

It should they’re both nano sim. Maybe trim the edges to make it fit by using a mail file.
