They were released 1 year apart but have the same chip. Will Apple stop supporting these phones on the same year or will the 14 get an extra year?

Nobody except Apple knows.
Keep in mind, that the 6S and the 7 stopped receiving updates at the same time although they have different chips (A9 and A10 respectively).

We‘ll just have to wait. But it’s sure to say both, the 13 and 14 still have some good years of software support ahead. ;)

Dropping support has nothing/very little to do with the chip and everything to do with encouraging people to upgrade.

Who knows
They dropped the 5 and 5C at the same time
But it would also be complicated if they dropped the regular but not the pro.
Given their history of also dropping pros before regulars for macbooks (2009 pro got dropped, 2009 regular didn’t, etc), they’ll likely just drop support based on year released (e.g. all iphone 14’s go together)

6S and 7 stopped at iOS 15. The 8 stopped at iOS 16.
There’s no telling what will happen with the 13 and 14.
It’s really premature to even be thinking about it right now.

I think the 13 will lose support before the 14. The 13 has 4gb of RAM and the 14 has 6gb.

Ram has never been a reason for loss of support. The 7+ had 3gb of ram and got axed when iOS16 was released but the iPhone 8 with 2gb received iOS16. Also, the iPad 7th gen had the same A10 with 3gb and is still supported in iOS17

I Think there are 2 options:
1. No
2. 13 support will be prolonged 1 year and they will die together (like 6s and 7)

If I had to guess, it would be yes.

iPhone 13 will get an “extra” year of support while 14 will get the usual 4-5 years.

I don’t think this is entirely accurate.

I would say that the choice of which SoCs get a certain iOS release is mostly arbitrary and dictated by non-technical reasons, but once Apple decides that a certain chip gets a certain iOS versions, all the iPhones mounting such chip will receive it.

In this case, I would bet on the 13 and 14 losing support together, receiving iOS 21 as their last major update.

Apple never made RAM-based distinctions in its update policy.

The 7 has 2GB while the 7+ has 3GB and yet their were cut together.
Same thing for the 8 vs 8+/X.
Same thing for the iPad Pro 1st gen (A9X with 4GB) and iPad 5th gen (A9 with 2GB).
Same thing on Macs (if you buy a MBA with 16GB you won’t get extra support).
