to hell with monthly subscriptions! online radio that's accessible everywhere would be awesome and possible for free (Surely)?

okay, pretend its a 'notebook', you go to a public wireless spot, they have an itunes/quicktime server with podcasts/music shared, granted it wouldn't be like regular radio with thousands of people connected, but nevertheless.. that will blow commercial radio out of the water.

the technology is there, but at what cost? (heaps im sure)

iPod Wireless.... UMMMMM... WIMAX !!!!

Hi Friends,

I just joined and am late to this conversation. Please forgive me.

I think a lot of people here are missing the point. The iPod has the potential to be the all-in-one device.

First off WIMAX will be deployed in many countries this year including parts of the US. Intel will put more than a billion into WIMAX this year. HMMMMM.... WIAMAX - INTEL - APPLE.

"The chipmaking giant said it signed a $1.12 billion contract for the M-Taiwan (Mobilize Taiwan) project as part of a joint effort with Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs." - CNET

"WiMax is considered a promising next-generation wireless technology because it supports high data rates and has a long transmission reach. The technology supports peak data speeds of around 20 megabits per second with average user data rates between 1 mbps and 4 mbps, Sergeant said. Transmission distances range from a few hundred feet in densely populated areas to between one and two miles in suburban areas." - CNET

Is the picture becoming clearer?

The Future Ipod Wireless (and not so far off)

Web Access - new deployment of small screen web site formats. (huge new market)
Mini iTunes.
Mac OS Moble.
Pen/touch navigation on screen.
IChat Av enabled with built-in iSight camera and mic. HUGE!!!!
Wirelessly connect to your home computer - files, music, video.
Barcode scanner - scan magazine ad with barcode to download a movie trailer or get a free sample song.

No seperate charges. Wimax will be you home and moble access. They are just waiting on Intel Wimax folks. The Apple will be the new AOL accept they will own the hardware too.

The future iPod is NOT just a music player.
