I've been working on ripping all my cds into itunes for a while now (powerbook+airport express=one beautiful wireless existence). at some point, the preferences got changed to import AIFFs rather than AACs. I dont really need AIFF quality (I'm keeping the cds) and it's taking up a LOT of hardrive space. is there any way to convert them into AACs in itunes without re-ripping? please, god, say yes.

fowler.

righ click, "convert to mp3/aac"?

I don't know, I don't have an aiff file to mess with.. but I know you can switch between mp3s and aac files in itunes.

yeah, that doesn't work. My advice, re rip everything :(

By 'figured it out' you mean you're selecting all the songs and going to Advanced -> Convert Selection to AAC, right? Not sure how fast your machine is, but a 1.25 GHz PowerBook converts from AIFF to AAC at about 10x. That's fast enough to do a few hundred CDs worth in a day (just let it go in the background while you work). It's not that bad... ;)
