I HATE my Lacie 1TB external drive. I have it well away and under the desk and I can hear it grinding away like an old-fashioned grain mill.
Last night, I wanted to throw my ip4000r printer through the window because it wasn't playing nice with the G5 I could wirelessly print test pages etc., but I couldn't print from any applications.
I hated my Canon Digital Rebel. Worst. Ergonomics. Ever.
Anyone else have a product they owned and hated?

I had an m-audio mobile pre, and I don't know if it was defective or what, but it had a huge amount of static in anything it recorded, I returned it and got an iMic (for considerably cheaper) which worked much better.
I also had a Lexmark Z65 printer which was just a total piece of junk.

I've never even touched a Digital Rebel, but I'm surprised you hated it so much. I've heard pretty good things about it, and I have a Canon EOS-D60 that I'm very happy with.

Lexmark's low end printers do indeed blow.
I literally threw one (a Z45 I think) out of my boat and into the water when I lived aboard.

Without starting a Rebel debate - I like the scroll wheel not the push buttons. The plasticky feel just never did it for me.
Slow, slower slowest.
It worked flawlessly, but I just didn't like it. I suppose for the price it was a good camera.

Peugeot 307SW SE 2.0ltr petrol - too many issue to list
Renault Clio 'Easy-matic' - Worst gearbox I've ever used, it has a mind of it's own and sometimes won't shift up to 2nd until 6000rpm so you look a tosser screaming through town.

Every shredder I have ever bought has been a P.O.S. Why can't someone make a good one that doesn't jam, or just stop working for no reason.
Now, I buy an extended warranties on them so I can just get the shredder replaced after it breaks. But it is a pain in the !@#$%

Besides the obligatory Lexmark printer, I used to have a 28.8kpbs modem that never worked reliably. Whould just completely stop working at times, and when it worked it was often dreadfully slow (even for a 28.8kbps modem). I suffered for years with that thing.
Hacked it into pieces with an axe after I got a new modem.

During my senior year of high school my parents bought me a Dell inspiron laptop. It was a piece, and it eventually blew up (not even joking, the power cord started sparking and the computer didn't turn on). Worst experience of my life.

My last PC. At first I really liked it, and to be honest it served me well, but by the time every single hardware component in it failed and it filled up with viruses, I grew to hate it. Other than that, I can't really think of any gear I've owned and hated. I guess I'm lucky, because I've got a lot of electronic gadgets and none of them have ever really broken, or if they have broken, I've been able to fix them myself.

Got a Compaq 7550 CRT monitor as a stop gap until I get enough money to afford a nice LCD (Apple 23"), but that won't happen until I graduate. It was only $100, but had good reviews and 1600x1200 res. Unfortunately, the clarity at highest res is terrible and the refresh rate too slow, so I use it at 1344x1008. And it squeals high-pitched occasionally, and I have to shut it off for a few minutes. I hate it, but I have to live with it for at least another 12-18 months.
Just audited my classes preparing to signup for spring courses. I only need 34 more hours to graduate with a double major. Not bad considering I'm now finishing up my 5th semester. I could get out in 3 and a half years with a double major if I didn't have to stick around because certain classes are only offered one semester a year. I'll have to stuff at least one elective in there just to remain a full-time student for three more semesters.

Paid $500 for a USB 2x CD-Burner (candy colored from some third-rate Asian company) that couldn't burn 2x without sensekey errors. Stuck burning at 1x CD speeds!!
P.O.S. crapola. I still have it. POS reminds me why I should always buy name-brand and from good, trustworthy reviews. POS!

A Canon ZR60 DV Video Camera. Took horible quality video and then stopped recording anything but black a few months after the warranty expired.
Which is strange since I normally have good luck with Canon. I will never buy a Canon lowend video camera again.
I had a crappy Lexmark Printer as well.

Dell Inspiron 3200 I got for high school graduation several years ago. Over the course of five years, there were three bad hard drives, cracked hinges, crackly speakers, and a faulty LCD backlight. That thing was a complete piece. RIHell, you piece of crap.

I'm on the verge of buying a 20' cable for the thing and putting it in a closet it is so bad.
You should do that. I can't imagine how you can work with the thing in the same room as you. I bought mine with the intention of attaching it to my powermac. I had to change plans (after the second 1TB drive proved the problem is their design) and I moved the 1TB drive to be attached to my mac mini (server) and then located both of those in a cupboard in the kitchen (my office is in a separate building in the backyard). Then I put in a 300GB Maxtor as drive 2 in the powermac.
Not what I wanted but it seemed the best way out after shelling out a lot of bucks the for 1TB coffee grinder.
POS

Yeah they told me it was just fans and normal the first time too. They replaced the drive but the replacement was exactly the same...

Number 1 most hated thing ever goes to my LaCie d2 Extreme. I will never buy LaCie HDs again frankly. The noise gives me nightmares.
In contrast, my Canon Digital Rebel XT is awesome! Fits fine in my hand, takes stunning pics so big thumbs up.
Don't stone me but my mini has annoyed me somewhat too. The darn beachball steals productive time every single day. Even though I've maxed it with 1 gig. Its getting sold off for pastures greener i.e. Powermac time!
I hate my Linn preamp. Makes noise when I change inputs. It's going on flea bay soonish.
Love my Tudor Prince day-date California Dial watch. I even wear it to bed! Recommend you all get one...etc.

MS Word and Excel. I always make an honest attempt to use them but it's so damn frustrating I end up launching AppleWorks to get the job done.
The Senn HD650 was a disappointing phone. Boomy, sloppy bass. Nothing beats the Grado RS-1 for clean, tight bass.
Back in the day, every Kodak transparency film I tried was dissappointing. Only Fuji knew how to make decent chromes (Velvia, Provia, Astia).

Let's see...HP2110 all-in-one, big suck. Then the Epson scanner which went back two days later and (you get what you pay for) Canon Z70 camcorder (went back same day). That's about it as I read about everything way more than I used to do. Almost forgot Netgear router, as I thought my iBook at the time was bad (a day old) called AppleCare and spent 90 mins. on the phone with three different people trying to get it working (never did).

Are you guys crazy?! (no offense) That's like the best printer ever, seriously, it works better than any other printer that I've ever used/own. It was cheap, and it still works perfectly. I've printed a few photos with it, and they're still shinny. Its ink cartridges last a lot, and they aren't that expensive (I used a Canon with cheap ink that lasted just a few week each cartridge). It works perfectly with PCs and Macs, and I haven't had problems with drivers. A b/w page prints like in 15 secs which is fast enough for me.
I could do a commercial about the 740 :p
Your guys are just bad luck for that printer :D

bought Sony MD walkman. the software was ******** - very buggy, heavy on resources and slow. after a few years, the player crapped out and couldn't record anymore @_@ for some reason. maybe becuase it's the software running on xp... cuz i recently switched from 2000.
The player itself was okay, but i didn't like the fact that i had to convert everything. Why not just ****ing burn the mp3 on the disk and let it play! god!

I got this cool thing that you are able to switch the computer's boot drive by simply powering off, pulling out one HD and putting the other in. It works perfectly.
But, when we first removed the HD and put that in, my HD recieved a shock and is dead, along with all my files and everything.
But it all worked out because I got a 300 Gig HD instead of an 80 gig one (300 gig was on sale for $130), and I have another 80 gig just for Linux.
Linux also is annoying because its incompatible with every thing I own. I can't even get online with it. And its slow and buggy and impossible to install stuff. Yeah, its bad.
And finally, while its amazing and I never regret it, my Logitech MX1000 laser mouse's battery life is only like 3 days, and I use my computer whenever I'm home, so I always need to find another mouse and use that for like 4 hours while it charges. But once its charged its awesome.

My first "real" computer...a Compaq something or other Pentium 3 pc. From the factory it was loaded with spyware, the modem was not attatched properly, the list goes on. I wasted so much time on problems that shouldn't have existed in the first place. I realize I was one of the unlucky ones who just got a bad piece of equipment, and the computer itself probably wasn't horrible, but I hear the name Compaq and I just shudder. See? I just typed Compaq and now I'm shuddering!! Oh! Oh! Look! I did it again!!

Small tips: Put it in the charger when you're not using using it. ;)
But, yes, it can be annoying. Sometimes I forget it, and then I have to another mouse while it's charging.

A 27" TV by APEX. Man is that thing a P.O.S.
In hindsight I think my dad easily would have spent the extra $50-75 to go with a better manufacturer.

I'll add another vote for the Epson Stylus 740... mine worked fine at first, but after a few months the prints became a big streaky mess - even after changing print cartridges.
I'm also starting to despise GE phones. I've had two now, where certain numbers on the number pad wear out. The one I have now I have to press "9" really hard to get it to work... my previous phone had a few numbers that just stopped working completely (even though the phone wasn't used that much).

Another for Nokia cell phones. I had two, they are easy to use but they are way behind in design. Mine was a size of a brick and weighed like one too!
Not really gear, but the biggest mistake in my life was purchasing
baseball cards and comics expecting a great fortune when I got older (dont mean to bash those that do still collect but mine is sitting here losing its value and sentiment) I think I will dust off my bike and shove a card or two in the spokes to rattle...like when i was a kid.

SyQuest SyJet. Yes, a very old piece of equipment that I'm still angry about. I spent over $300 on it back in the day, and less than a year later it just decided to die. No refund, no nothing.

I dislike my Sony VAIO R505GL laptop... its the smaller one from a few years ago that has the docking station with the CD-RW/DVD drive and floppy... I rarely get a chance to use the docking station because it's always on the go, so when I do dock it back up Windows is like WTF is that? iTunes crashes every time I burn (Windows' fault) And the drive names always get messed up when I do it. (A, C, D & E are External FW), G is CD/DVD, R is Built in Mem Stick, F & L are office network drives)... too many of them .... It maxed out on RAM the day I bought it at a whopping 384 megs. It has a 30Gb hard drive, and it is a P3m 1.2. It takes forever to load AutoCAD and/or Photoshop and cant do both at the same time. It only has USB 1.1 (but it does have FW :D ... 4-pin :( ) No built in wireless... so i have an ugly card sticking out. And its not a powerbook... I'll admit, though... the day I got it I was filled with glee... then, when I bought an iPod I realized that Apples didnt suck... I wish I would have explored the options better and bought a TiBook instead.

My Kodak digital camera that took seriously 5 sec to take a picture and couldn't hold a charge to save its life.

2. Motorola Timeport tri-band phone - what a clunky POS that was. You needed a degree in upside-down-wrong-way-round to be able to navigate the menus. I'm sure it was something like 15 key-presses just to get to 'compose new message'

My CURRENT piece of junk computer....
its a Compaq, which I will never buy again (even if I were to ever get a PC again) but, it....
1) I had replaced EVERY part on the computer within the First year of owning it (bad motherboard, speakers blown, 2 Compaq CRT monitors died, Printer didn't even have USB)
2) it doesn't even come close to working now (still bad motherboard, optical drives died - using an external, sometimes it doens't like to recognise the HD is connected and will say that it can't find the OS when starting up).
--I will never buy anything from compaq ever again...(I shouldn't have in the first place, but it was just a lapse of judgement about 6 years ago).

i seemed to have a lot of trouble with the epson 740 printer even though when it worked, it printed great images...and i had three of them and had the same pesky issues of clogged or streaky images which came up again and again
my lexmark z23 does not have the great images, but it is far more reliable and never gives me trouble and i have had it well over two years...and now that i print only when i need to and that i only seem to print in black ink, the lexmark is good enough to get the job done
gone are the days where i need to print every pretty picture i see on the internet or experiment that i make in photoshop or illustrator

Hate:
Apple Airport Extreme Base Station: What? No monitoring of who's connected in the default admin app? What? Only 20 entries max for port forwarding??? what? Poor range compared to comparable routers? And only one ethernet port? The USB printer port I no longer use either b/c I couldn't get any of my epson or hp printer utilites to access the printer's utility functions unless it was directly connected to the computer.
Apple Airport Base Station (Graphite): The capacitor problem is famous. Yes I had a soldering iron and went to RadioShack for a quick fix, but a product shouldn't be prone do completely dying on you just because of the voltage shock of turning it on.
Apple Mighty Mouse-- for obvious reasons. I'll try to sell mine on ebay.
40G stock BTO upgrade in Apple Cube-- it was the largest drive available at the time, and it was the noisiest high-pitched whiny Maxtor ever, totally making irrelevant the Cube's fanless quietness. Since upgraded to a 120G Western Digital.
Compaq Presario 2500 laptop: at least it's under warranty, but i've replaced the display twice, as well as the HD, all within 2 yrs. And OMFG OMFG OMFG their outsourced tech support customer service to India (and I love India) was among the worst customer support experiences I have ever had, and I had to go through it twice-- now my warranty is a domestic 3rd party extended-warranty vendor, so I don't have to deal with that but no way will I buy from compaq/HP again. Love it otherwise as my lone XP 'box', as I'd never buy a G4 laptop (went iac G5 instead).
Sennheiser behind-the-neck headphones: I <3 behind-the-ear, but these ergonomics were bad and hurt the top of my ears, and the sound was way too harsh on the treble end-- extensive 'burn in' didn't help either. I wish Grado would make a behind-the-neck model that was comfortable, as I'm a big fan of their SR-60s at that price range. The ear-huggers will have to do.
HP inkjet printers: never owned one that lasted much longer than a year. Went Epson and am crossing my fingers.
Verizon DSL: I can count on at least 1 outage per month on average. Add to that frequent DNS problems, so mysteriously large portions of the Net are inaccessible for months at a time (e.g. google "Megatokyo & verizon" or read here (http://www.megatokyo.com/index.php?strip_id=683) or here (http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=293733)). Add to that the nonworking status of their email filter functions (disabling filter wouldn't work, so I'd lose messages. Eventually I had to explicitly enable every top level domain I could think of). Add to that email routing to and from many addresses in western europe were blocked for months at time (you can google that as well or read this (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/01/21/verizon_class_action/)). As my mac gaming site (http://www.macologist.org) I founded was hosted in Europe, it was extremely inconvenient that I could not receive mail from my own domain or other hardware administrators. Add to that the constant changing of the verizon personal account functions-- I was promised an expansion of personal web space, but the function was always "under repair", then suddenly it was no longer offered. Verizon got bought out in my local area, so hopefully things will improve, and it's cheaper than cable atm. And why is it so freaking difficult to put a 'network status' link on the front page of the user page? I could never confirm outages, and it always took me at least 10-15 minutes of searching through the site and site map, and I could never find the status page, and eventually I'd find it via google. Atrocious.

A Sharp minidisc player. A PITA to get music onto, and it really clouded my judgement over buying an iPod - I waited more than 2 years til buying one because I had such a bad experience. An Italian girl I worked with was using a Sony MD player as recently as 6 months ago - what a piece of cr** - that proves more about her though ;)
I also have a Magimix Duo juicer that has been used about 3 times - the end product is excellent, but I'm too lazy to use it.

i can add my benq dw1625 dvd burner. it was a great burner, very fast, never burned a coaster (except through user error) but this weekend it decided to stop reading any and all discs. period. and this is after like 4 months!
looks like i'm on the hunt for a new optical drive. i'm torn between a pioneer 110 or paying the extra dough for a high-end plextor (i've heard they're highly reliable, though expensive.)

Nothing wrong with an iBook, my friend. Class piece of kit. Strong. Capable. Durable. Cheap. Which aspect is not to like?
the small capacity of it's HD and the cheapness of it (almost everyone as one these days) which makes it pretty lame...yeah undoubtedly, it's kinda in a way, strong(if u have lots of RAM in it but my case, 256MB is pretty lame)....

What about legs. I went to the coffee shop the other day whipped out my iBook to do some surfing and felt quite smug as I was the only person in there with one but then this amputee came in and I was soo jealous as I realised that I was just like the rest of the losers in there with legs!

Blimey, there's just no pleasing some people. Buy a memory upgrade and a custom case, and fall in love all over again. :)

With Dave Letterman and stage band...
10. Palm IIIe - sad little chunk of plastic, but I suppose it was good in it's own time
9. HP LaserJet (1000a, I think)... scanner died the second time I used it
8. iMic - unintelligent mic that continued to record ambient noise even with a direct input plugged in
7. Viewsonic 19" monitor (G90, I think)... Spent almost $500 on this thing... had to ship it in for repairs ($65) after an early death at two years and they sent me back an OLDER refurbished unit that worked until 4 days after my 3 year warranty expired and then that one fried too.
6. HP inkjet... sad, sad, sad.
5. Olympus digital voice recorder. Sound quality is crap. I have yet to find a really GOOD recorder (using my Palm T3 voice memo recording for now). Any suggestions?
4. Dazzle DV Bridge - I spent like $350 on the thing and it just died one day...
3. Man, this is a close tie with #1 and #2... cable modems! Aughh... Time Warner sucks and Comcast blows!
2. Maxtor 80G hard drive - bad case connections that caused the HD to randomly disappear for days/weeks at a time and constantly scared the hell out of me. I finally ripped open the case and transplated the drive into an metalGear case - no problems since. Ohhh I hated that thing!
And the #1 most HATED gear...
1. ...every damn PC I've ever used!
