Apple released (http://www.macrumors.com/2007/07/31/security-update-2007-007-iphone-update-1-0-1-released/) iPhone Update 1.0.1 yesterday. Here is a list of updates/fixes that appear to have been included after scouring the forums.

Warning

- It forces a full restore prior to update if you have a customized/hacked iPhone, so make sure to save your Camera Roll which will not automatically get synced prior to restore.

Not Fixed / Other

- Safari is still crashing (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=336257) for some users.
- Missing option for WEP or ASCII password (image (http://images.macrumors.com/article/2007/06/30/webpass2.jpg)) for Wifi password. The iPhone must be able to determine this automatically.
- The checkered screen pattern (http://www.macrumors.com/iphone/2007/07/20/iphone-screen-bug-pokadots/) was not affected by this update.

Fixes

- VPN appears to work more reliably.
- Not fully charging (http://www.macrumors.com/iphone/2007/07/12/iphone-battery-charge-issues/) battery indicator appears to be fixed.
- Passcode lock now offers time-out options up to 1 hour.
- You can automatically BCC yourself in Settings -> Mail
- Settings -> Phone -> Call Forwarding remembers the last phone number you entered.
- Some people claim that the speaker is subjectively louder.

Apple also posted an updated User Guide (PDF) (http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iPhone_User_Guide.pdf).

well, seeing as how i have 5 ringtones and a library of music on an external hdd i don't really see the need to upgrade to 1.0.1. They could've at least released some new apps or something with this update

Don't worry, an actual enhancement update will come soon. This update was mainly to address some specific security issues.

Hex passwords still work. Just type it in as you normally do. It just figures it out whether it's a WEP password or HEX key.

I'm delighted to report that my screen seems to be smudging less. Couldn't be happier.

One other thing I noticed is the before the update, while scrolling with my finger up and down through any menu, my finger would end up not where I first put it on the screen. Now, it does.

Now both my speakers on the bottom work, although one is still louder than the other, might just be that one song...

I think edge is crashing more, it keeps telling me that it can't activate EDGE, presistently, and then while the dialog box is up telling me that, the data loads underneath it, and it seems to be running more slowly overall. A quantitative test shows I'm getting data rates as fast as 195 kbps to as slow as 89 kbps from packet to packet.

My VPN now remembers my password like I like for it to!

Edit: I'm not sure what my ears are telling me anymore. After installing the update I was 100% sure there were two speakers working, but now I'm not so sure... I had previously been so acutely aware that there was only one speaker, I felt sure I was hearing two, but now I think maybe there is just one... I don't know.

.

You know I thought this must be craziness talking... but you are right. Before if I covered up the left speaker, I couldn't hear anything. Now I can hear something. Note, the right "speaker" is actually just the mic, so they must have made it louder or something.

There is only one speaker, the other side is the mic, and some sound bleeds across.

Yea i swear i read some where that there was only one speaker on the bottom of our phones... But i might just be imagining it... Anyone notice if their spell correction feature works more consistently after the update? I was going to say i did, but while typing this post it did not help me again. I really hope this is fixed soon!

I have to disagree with the reports of the volume being corrected. I think it's even quieter than before! I tried calling people with a variety of cell providers and landlines after the update, and had to be in a quiet room to hear anyone clearly, even with the volume turned all the way up. Before the update, I could hear most people moderately well, even while out shopping, etc.

I'm curious to hear other people's experiences...

Exchange and their nested folders work now.
Also, I was begining to think the internal speaker sucked, and my FM-modulator sucked, then I realized it's the quality of most of my mp3s that sucks.

One thing that I have noticed is that the play-pause from the clicker on the headphones now works better. Before the update if I was listening with the headphones and I clicked the pause button on headphones it would pause. But if I waited to long to click it again to continue playing the songs it wouldn't work and I would actually have to take the iPhone out of my pocket and click play on the screen.

This was very annoying but they have fixed it now. Now I can't wait for some real feature updates.

- You can automatically BCC yourself in Settings -> Mail

There was some kind of setting for this before the update.
Was the option changed in some way, or is its inclusion on this list a mistake?

I just tried this in my car. And now the Belkin Auto Kit for iPod works with the iPhone. Before the update the Belkin Auto Kit for iPod would only charge the iPhone and no sound would come out when playing in ipod mode.

Now you still get the message that says "This device is not designed to work with iPhone. Would you like to switch to Airplane mode." Just click No and and go to ipod mode play some music and it will output the sound through the dock connector just like the ipod.

Ahhh now I can listen to my iPhone in the car just like I used to with my iPod. :D

The difference is now you can BCC instead of just CC.

Before the update with my phone in standby I would get the annoying GSM chatter in my speakers at work. It was LOUD and in an 8hr day it would go off maybe every 2 minutes and last for about 20 seconds. Very annoying and I can only assume it wasn't doing anything for battery life. Was it jumping around looking for reception? I have no idea but my reception was never an issue and why would one get that chatter every 2 minutes or so? For the last two days it has not done the GSM chatter at all in standby mode and only if I turn the screen on and even then the chatter is barely noticeable and dissipates quickly. My battery life is lasting wonderfully longer now. Even if this is a placebo I will gladly take this pill.

When someone sends me a text the actual message doesnt show up anymore. It just sayd the persons name and the word "text" afterwards. Isn't this new?

I've had this happen all along if I have more than one text, or a text and a voicemail. So if friend A texts me, it says "Friend A: Blee blah bloo", but if friend B also texts me and then Friend A calls as well, it says:

Friend A: Text
Friend B: Text
Friend A: Missed Call
Friend A: Voicemail

So it has always done this if you have several messages or entries...if it's just the one text I don't know what's up with that.

I also noticed the new options for locking the phone. However, when I have mine set to 1 hour I noticed that it locks the phone every hour instead of an hour after it has not been used.

Yup... a very welcome update indeed, as incompatibility with dock-enabled car adapters was a huge disappointment initially. Glad to see they fixed it sooner rather than later, although the alert is annoying.

I second this one. I just thought it was me, but since the patch, I have to hold the speaker up near my ear to hear a speakerphone call. That kind of defeats the whole purpose of using speaker!

Before the patch, I could use speaker call in my car. Forget about it now.

Can anyone confirm that their battery life is WORSE after the update? I have NEVER had a problem with the battery since day 1. I could go all day at work and home, cruising the net, you tube and email, and battery life would never go less than 1/2 (16-17 hour day). Now since the update I am at the Red battery point (that I have NEVER seen before) and the phone is telling me it needs to be charged. I am hugely disappointed with this as I thought my battery life was great before. If this is an ongoing thing, it will force me to think twice about the usage of my phone. Anyone else have this experience?

I agree with you guys...i've not had to post anything negative about this phone till now....(although i do miss my 8525 that had ALL kinda' great functioning prog's. on it) But, i do notice a difference with my phones speaker volume...thank God i always have my Samsung earpiece with me otherwise outside in an uncontrolled vol. scenario, i'd be in trouble trying to use this phone!

I haven't noticed any differences in speaker volume after the 1.0.1 update. All the minor feature updates are there (like autolock time and such.)

However, I do now have one issue that another person says they have as well - sending email from a Yahoo account no longer works. Receiving works. Gmail send a receive works. But Yahoo send doesn't. I've deleted my Yahoo mail settings, power cycled the phone and still have the issue. Has this happened to anybody else?

Insatiable
Aug 3, 2007, 04:33 PM
elistan, I'm having some similar issues. I can send and receive via Yahoo, but the times are significantly delayed--much moreso than with Gmail. I'l keep testing further and post what I find.

After the patch I found that my Motorola HF850 Bluetooth Installed car kit is now working. Previously with 1.0 it would pair, but there would be no audio. Now everything is working fine.

Also glad that the Belkin Auto Kit works through the audio line out feature, and the Mod that has been posted is no longer necessary

Immediately after I upgraded and rebooted, when I attempt to sync my iPhone I get this message:

Itunes could not sync with the Yahoo address book due to an unknown error (4). Please try again later.

Absolutely nothing else has changed besides updating to 7.3.2...what could be wrong?

I used iFuntastic to put custom ringtones on my iPhone before the update. When the update came out I had to resore my iPhone to factory defaults. Not only didi I lose any camera roll photos that were not saved I also lost all my You Tube bookmarks.

And since the update my battery goes from half full to zero like nothing.

It wasn't really a problem i believe apple ment for this to happen. The reason is because after so long of pausing your music the phone thinks its no longer in use and goes into sleep mode, which then causes the play/pause click to not work because the phone is saving battery :]

I just noticed this today at work, and didn't see it mentioned:

Now you still get the message that says "This device is not designed to work with iPhone. Would you like to switch to Airplane mode." Just click No and and go to ipod mode play some music and it will output the sound through the dock connector just like the ipod.

It would also appear that the 5G dock and remote now both work with the iPhone. Before the audio was quiet, and the remote didn't work. Now it appears as though the audio is playing at a much better rate and the remote jumps to the iPod from anywhere on the phone (except from within other areas the iPod app...)

There seems to be a bug whereby it jumps to a different area of the iPod app after some arbitrary amount of time.
