On that iPad mixer app, I have a friend who has the iPhone version of it, and when you touch the "record" and slide it back and forth it works just as if you were a DJ doing it. Really cool.

I'm suprised more developers aren't pimping their new iPad apps. Not sure why they wouldn't. Posting screenshots and even putting up a preview video on YouTube would certainly seem like a good way to build some hype.

As far as I know, the Dev's are still under NDA's. The fact we are seeing any screenshots of iPad apps is a violation.

From the looks of that macstories.com site (so far at least) Apps are ranging from as small as 4mb (Brushes) to 20mb (Yahoo! entertainment).

I have to assume more in-depth programs or games will be larger.

Aside from maybe games, I don't think iPad apps will be that much larger. Most iPhone content is zoomable at a higher resolution anyway. Many apps use standard interface elements already built into the iPad, so larger sizes for those pieces are irrelevant. Even custom UI pieces wouldn't add much more than a webpage's worth of graphical content, which should only be a few megabytes at most. I would say something like a bird guide, comic book, or similar; that has a lot of built-in high resolution content will probably be larger. How much larger? Hard to tell, but my best guess is 30-40% more than their iPhone counterpart. These apps won't be as common as traditionally text-based content apps, and most apps that serve up video will be streaming it anyhow (see new Yahoo! app).

Honestly, I'm more worried about storing all the content that I create with the apps. Between iWork, Brushes/Sketchbook, and some sort of image editor to enhance the RAW images imported with the camera connection kit, we could be looking at quite a bit of content. Lets hope that new file management system is implemented properly. I'd expect it to be fully functional by 4.0 at the latest.

This is why I had to go with the 64. I can live with changing out video playlists if my 16gb or 32gb iPad starts running out of room. What about files created on the iPad though? Syncing those won't be as easy. 16gb is too small. Not sure why they started there (probably cost). 32gb is a sweet spot, but if apps are near 500mb, that won't last long.

even with 100 "heavy" 20MB apps, you will only be using 2 GB.... isn't 16gb enough for most?

20MB is heavy? 50MB-100MB more like. Big games can be 100-250MB. Navigon is almost 2GB. So I'm sure there will be BIG filesize games coming to the iPad.

According to Apple's Customer Service, the Dictionary is the larges app in the app store. It's between 200-300MB. She said the iPad apps won't be too much larger than the iPhone/iPod Touch apps and if anyone is concerned about space, they should base it off of the amount Music and Movies they want on the iPad.

These apps are looking amazing. Not to make this a huge issue, but i hope in the near future (4.0) there is some multi-tasking ability, because with amazing apps like this, it would be great to switch quickly between them, although the iPad is super fast, multi-tasking would be pretty sick.

We'd like to announce to an app for the iPad called Sudoku Real Edition.

Our game is unique in the way it aims to be as real as possible. When you're playing it's almost as if you went down to the store, bought a Sudoku book and sat down at a table to play. Almost all the graphics are based off real items we photographed.

We've already received feedback and confirmation from Apple that our game will be in the store for purchase on April 3rd for $2.99

Yeah, that lady is talking out her butt. I've got Navigon and it's 1.4gb. Even Rock Band and NOVA are 160mb. The iPad screen has 5 times more pixels, so expect games to be especially bigger--maybe even several times larger.

A couple of visual oddies you should fix:
1) The graphs should have some kind of headers in them. It looks weird without any text on top. Also don't use the budget as min-max, it should be lowest group and highest group (100-1000, not 498-928). It looks very squeezed in there, might want to fix that.
2) Columns with dollars on the right side should be right justified, not left. There's a reason, you know there's always 2 decimals on the right side of the dot, but not the left, so it always look justified. You have it right on the left side, but you need to keep it consistent throughout the application. You also have the budget column that's not right justified.
3) Center the Category Header, so that it's consistent with the Date on the left.
4) Your New and Edit buttons are not consistent in how it should placed. New on Right and Edit on left? It looks weird and out of place.

Overall, it looks nice, it looks like a leather bound budget planner.

Thanks, I agree with your first 2 comments. The choice of header justification was modeled after one of the views in the Calendar app. I played with it in every which way and for now decided I like this way the best. The New and Edit buttons are contextually placed, i.e. the new button adds a new category to the list that the button is adjacent to, and the Edit button edits the active category on the side with the Edit button.

Oh I know that those buttons are respective to their frame, but what I mean is that in their own respective frame, the buttons are on the opposite side. The edit button should be on the right side to make it consistent. Users would know right away with memory muscle that there'll be a button on the right bottom side for every frames. From first look, I can't tell what the edit button is for, it looks like it's for editing the graph and not the data on the right side.

Even so, I still think it takes up too much space for one button for both frames. There's got to be a better way to make it more efficient.

Depends on your needs. I actually don't need it - it's for my daughter. I'd however prefer to have a way to take these types of notes with a video playing at the top.

I won't be rushing into buying anything at first - i have a feeling there will be a huge explosion of announcements and such when NDA's expire and such.

speaking of which. I wonder if anyone is creating a microsoft courier-ish app for the iPad. a notetaking/journal app that allows you to bring up a web browser OR photo album on one side of the screen (when placed in landscape mode), clip pictures, text and all that jazz and drag them over to the notetaking side of the application where you can scale, crop, or just scrible all over the information that you have clipped or just put it in a sort of placeholder box. close the browser/photo album to browse through your pages etc and then bring down the placeholder box to place the information that you have clipped etc. the rest will be standard-ish features I guess with text input, some assorted brushes (I'm sure I'm not the first one to have thought of it but I think it would be nice if some properties or tools of apps could be shared between apps. like brushes from a painting app shared with a photo editing app etc), folders, tags, voice recording etc. ok fine! I admit, I want the microsoft courier! but I'm sure this is possible on the iPad as well isnt it?

yeah. note taking apps are aplenty but one that actually follows a similar path like microsoft courier's would be much more useful (in my opinion) with in-built web/photo browsers that allows multiple clipping functionalities and editing.

if you're developing one with similar features, i am definitely looking forward to it with great anticipation! do share with us some screens etc if/when you can and good luck! :)

Haha...no ... it's a really awesome app. It's too bad they don't make a general-purpose planner. Although...the Calendar app on the iPad looks really nice.

I can't wait to see panelfly on the ipad. I didn't see it on the approved list but hopefully it will be there on launch. And there was also another app that displayed concert posters from some bands

I think the Medical industry is going to eat this device up. So much can be done on a tablet for Dr's Nurses, etc.

Hi guys!

I'm a regular on these forums. Since the release of the iPad SDK, I've been working to make a pretty neat app for productivity, education and entertainment. It's called padBoard, and it will be available at the launch of the iPad App Store this Saturday, April 3rd.

padBoard is a collaborative whiteboarding application that turns your iPad into a virtual whiteboard. It allows you to collaborate with other users - on their own iPads - as you all collectively edit a document in real time.

Here's a screenshot of padBoard in action:

http://www.peterhajas.com/storage/post-images/palette.png?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1269549151275

There's a demo video here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lVRtDynWyU).

You can find more information and screenshots about the application here (http://peterhajas.com/padboard).

padBoard will be in the iPad App Store at launch. I look forward to seeing some sweet collaborative images!

Though it may be tempting, really think of your favorite app on the iPad and name just one.

And go!

I like the sketchbook pro app too but I encountered an app crash losing over 3 hours work on a portrait.:(

For the first time, I felt like throwing my iPad.

Like with any computer, you must save as you work. Sorry for your lost work. I remember working on a spreadsheet and we had a fire drill. I forgot to save my work and it was gone when I got back. Sometimes we have blink-outs during the workday in the summer. Now I save constantly.
