Couldn't find a similar thread on this topic (I'm actually surprised there isn't one).
So What driving habits do you have, good or bad, common or not?
I'll start us off, in no particular order:
This is by no means an exhaustive list. Now it's your turn (the non-exhaustive part too).
So What driving habits do you have, good or bad, common or not?
I'll start us off, in no particular order:
- When reversing (auto or manual), I'll switch into drive or a forward gear without first bringing the car to a stop.
- When there aren't any/many cars around (usually at night) I'll use up as much of the road as I feel like.
- I drive carefully with passengers (ie not taking corners too fast), generally just slower around bends/turns because I don't want to make their ride to rough. Even with mates, who think I drive way too slow.
- That's not to say I drive slowly. I use my iPhone to check my speed and sit at the upper 'no ticket' limit (here <5 km/h over is safe).
- Check all the cars I get into so see how accurate their speedo is with GPS.
- In traffic, I duck and weave through lanes of traffic constantly (not excessively, courteous to drivers generally). Trying to squeeze every second out. It's like an optimisation game to me.
- Clutch slipping, engine braking (manual and semi-autos).
- Study traffic lights at every intersection; jump the lights as they change.
- Go into empty lanes at the front of the lights just to blast off, even if I'm not in a rush.
- Lightly rest my foot on the clutch (very light, but apparently this still might be riding it).
- Forever annoyed at people who can't park. I also take photos of really bad examples.
- Always admire my good parking
