NAB Final Cut Supermeet Coverage

Pre-event photo by @fcpsupermeet
The Final Cut Pro User Group Supermeet is about to kick off, and everyone seems to expect that Apple will be presenting the new version of Final Cut Pro. The event kicks off at 10pm Eastern, 7pm Pacific and has been rumored to include Apple as the main stage presenter. There has been no official confirmation of this, so hopefully everyone won't be disappointed. We'll provide updates here as we get them.

Appleinsider jumped the gun a few hours ago and posted a nice article about the "new" final cut 7. Complete with info on the FCS that has been out for 2 years.... lol

Since pulled.

Here's the placeholder... http://www.appleinsider.com/articles...color_1_5.html

That was pretty funny. It looked on Twitter like maybe 9to5mac had sorta tricked AppleInsider into announcing FCP7. (2 years after the fact.) Apparently there's a lot of "borrowing" of stories between the two sites.

Is there going to be a keynote video like WWDC or the September iPod events? I want to go spoiler free if possible!

Normally I go spoiler-free, but given I seriously doubt Apple will release an official video for download, I'll just follow twitter feeds as this unfolds...

I really hope this update is as good as they say. If it is I'll switch from FCE to FCP

I hope to see them do something with it! Also interested what happens to FCP pricing - will it become available through the App Store at a fraction of the price? Will Motion be available separately? Guess we'll see.

This would be hilarious if there's no official announcement. Nah, they won't leave us hanging.

So far all of the negative criticism I've heard is from people who haven't seen it yet. Everyone else that's actually seen it says it will be great so I can't wait to see what Apple has up their sleeve.

I wish they'd show it on a nice new shiny iMac.

Supposedly the guy behind this new version is also the criminal that destroyed iMovie a few years back. God I hope FC8 isn't ANYTHING like iMovie. Old editors are too set in our ways to switch over to a iMovie/Sony Vegas style of editing. I need a preview window, and a Timeline Window. Just like when I edited on tape.

Thanks.

Who thinks that they'll eliminate Final Cut Express and lower the price of Final Cut Pro? iMovie seems to serve the "express crowd" while FCP would be within reach of the semi-pro demographic if the price were around $300.

I used to think just like you until I sat down and used it. You should give it a try. It is a very powerful editor.

Seems late for an event. Since its FCP, should we have a video of the event? Or maybe it will come later after it is edited.

Its a room FULL of video industry specialists.

You would think that ONE of them would be able to do a live video stream.

That 'criminal' was the same guy that worked on every iMovie version prior along with every Final Cut version. Read up on Randy Ubillos.

Also known as the guy who made FCP and Premiere originally.

Also the guy who took a nice iMovie and made it unusable. I hope he doesn't fsck up FCP. Even iMovie had background rendering until he stripped it out.

I know this thread is probably full of pro video geeks so don't eat me alive here. What's the primary difference between FCP and Express aside from the fact that Final Cut Pro is packaged in a suite of applications?

From what I understand that was Steve Job's doing. The guy made a separate simple movie app, and Jobs liked it so much he decided to make it the new iMovie.
