Wow, that's pretty cool... but also illegal as iGary is hinting at. I would try it, but I would have no use for this without a remote.

I can confirm it works. Although you can tell it was made to work with a remote.

Cool mod:
create apple script---

tell application "System Event"
tell application "Front Row" to activate
key code 53 using command down
end tell

--then compile and save.

Use an app like Xkeys to assign a key to launch the applescript. Takes about a second.5 to launch.

I would most definately download it if I had the remote...otherwise its just stupid. Hopefully apple will come out with some type of usb remote or one that works via bluetooth.

I can't get that to compile, any tips?

Not so, properly applied. If you had the computer hooked to your TV and could get a great picture (HD?) then it is not a fad, it is an addition to your system. It would work well with Optical Out for Audio so you could do all your iTunes and DVD through the home system, and a great pic for running on the TV. I hope, as do others, that they will soon run an addition that will allow me to run on my PB.

Front Row has potential, just what is Apple going to do with it is the question.

Speaking of that.... how can I hook my mac up to my tv? I have an old g3 tower and an iBook. The iBook has the tv adapter, but I dont want the resolution to be down in the dumps. The tv is capable of 1080i. I would love to hook Front Row up to it!!!!

i Love it!

I think its a great app!

It is slower than I would like - I think it might be written in Core Image, 9600 with 128MB works.

I've also looked through some of the HD H.264 footage, put your energy settings to 'maximum' when you use this - it'll make the experience that mich nicer.

I dont know why you're all complaining about a lack of remote - I think a Bluetooth Keyboard does great! Just go through the programs with the 'left' or 'right' buttons!

Apple should maybe make more of there little apps for us to have fun with....what with the crap support for games an' all. Need to get me Sims 2 when I graduate!

I have the Keyspan Express remote, http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/urm17a/, anyone think I could get this working with Front Row? I haven't installed Front Row yet, I just don't see the point until I can get a remote working with it. Maybe I should just install it and play around with the Keyspan remote settings.

It works with my keyspan wireless remote.

http://www.keyspan.com/products/homepage-Remotes.spml

Edit: Oops, didn't read all of the posts. :P I can confirm that it does work with the keyspan. All of the frontrow actions are available via keyboard commands so you just assign the keyspan remote's global functions to those keys.

"a cracked version of Apple's Front Row application is being distributed over the internet."

Doesn't seem like news to me.

We KNOW Apple has SOME plan for Front Row. Maybe not a huge one, maybe not something we've thought of. Maybe it will spread to other Macs. This crack doesn't tell us anything more.

And we KNOW the app could run in theory on other Macs, if Apple chose. Nothing new there.

So all that's new here is the piracy. It's Apple's work, and it's Apple's right to choose WHEN and for HOW MUCH $ they will sell that work. Or if they wish to give it away. Up to them.

I hope it becomes part of iLife, and that the remote is added to more Macs in future. But I have no interest in promoting cracking the software before.

thanks for the help. So will any remote work with this, or is there a specific one? What would you do if your remote that comes with the imac breaks?

just read the apple remote page on apple.com, and it is a replacement for the imac g5, not just for the ipod. does the imac have something specific that makes this work, or does it use bluetooth?

Compatible with Apple products introduced in 2005 or later that have a built-in Infrared (IR) receiver.

I have found a little problem with Frontrow

After running front row and watching the latest HEX, (AVI file worked fine in Frontrow) All of my Safari Windows have lost the minimise button and it's even grayed out in the window menu.

edit - They come back after restarting the application.
