Anyone else notice the very similar lyrics of Dylan's

"Someday baby, you ain't gonna work for me any more" and McKinley Morganfield's

"Someday baby, you ain't gonna trouble, Poor me, anymore."

For a second I actually thought it was a cover of "Trouble No More".

As would I.

dictionary.com says a silhouette is

"1. a two-dimensional representation of the outline of an object, as a cutout or configurational drawing, uniformly filled in with black, esp. a black-paper, miniature cutout of the outlines of a famous person's face.
2. the outline or general shape of something: the slim silhouette of a skyscraper.
3. a dark image outlined against a lighter background."

What this ad shows might be described as Bob Dylan in dimmed/poor light rather than a silhouette of Dylan. There is arguably a "silhouette" of the dancer in the commerical on the floor, but that's more a shadow than a silhouette.

In any case, I'm not overly impressed by the commerical. Dylan isn't cool because he's in an iPod commercial, and iPod isn't cool because Dylan is in an iPod commercial. Maybe if it had been a silhouette and then at then end we see it's Dylan, that might have been more interesting.

I'm sorry? He claims he doesn't like new recording techniques, which I can relate to. Records have quite a bit more depth to them than CDs (or even worse, music purchased on iTunes). It would be unwise to think Dylan would not want to promote his new album any way he can.

I thought the ad was good.

I bought the album on iTunes last night as soon as it was available for download, and listened to the whole thing. It is brilliant!

I can't imagine how happy Steve Jobs is to have Bob Dylan doing an ad for Apple.

i love this commercial, it is fabulous. But then again, i love anything Dylan pretty much Definitely an improvement over the other iPod ads with dancers, U2, etc.

I didn't care for the U2 ad much, but I really liked the look of the ads with Wynton Marsalis and Eminem. Besides those, the most recent 'dancers' ad also had more textured and 3 dimensional environments. The Bob Dylan ad - eh, so so.

The colors and the light is just brilliant, almost like an old Ansel Adams photo. ok, perhaps not...lol... but it is very aesthetically appealing. I didn't like the hysterical colors in the previous commercials.

I think Dylan's diss of modern recording had more to do with making the music sound small. He said the music played live by his band sounded 10 times better than the reproduction--and why wouldn't it? To me it's like seeing a picture of Yosemite Falls and seeing Yosemite Falls. Whether it's music or a natural landscape it's much better to be there in person.

As for the ad, I liked his Victoria Secret ad better.

It's a lot more complicated than that. Modern music uses a great deal of processing. For example, compression, which is often used to make everything loud. In the end, there are no dynamics (loud vs. soft) left in the music. Everything is the same volume. I happen to agree with Dylan on this. Music is generally overprocessed.

Secondly, there's the old issue of lossless vs. lossy formats. MacRumors has been through that lots of times.

I'm not much of a Dylan fan, but I think he looks really, really freakin' cool in this shot.

Great ad.
Oh yeah. Here's a few frames from it since no one else put them up.

Best iPod Ad ever!

Apple needs to do another one, but completely different. Have two dancers side-by-side, one in black with a white ipod, the other in white with a black iPod.

Just a thought.

Let's hope Apple submits it to the Clio nomination committee. Congratulations to all who made this ad happen.

For those of you who don't know Clio, it's the advertising community's equvalent of the Oscar and Emmy.
Well, now we know what that one girl from the Wynton Marsalis ad looks like. I agree though, the Bob Dylan ad is refreshingly stark.

The times they are a-changin', eh?

I don't know what I think about this ad. I like Dylan better when he was selling people on civil rights and peace than when he's selling people on his music.

We're all equity, I guess ...

I thought it was awesome to see Dylan in an iPod commercial...wasn't so cool to see a 5G iPod though When does Apple plan on updating these? Obviously not soon if they want to run this ad for a while. Well, I guess there's always room for another iPod line....

Then again, it could be a push to liquidate some of their current inventory in preparation for a 6G release.

i really hope you aren't serious. the clickwheel cant be seen because the contrast is up too high (duh.. i mean, look at that shot), and in the beggining of the close up, you can see the clickwheel there faintly. what is more interesting is how the ipod is off. you would think they would want to show it on (especially because she is supposedly listening to it)
