Me.com Mail Servers Online

FridgeDay reports that the Me.com mail servers are now online. This means that you can actually send mail from your @me.com email address.

The outgoing mail server is "smtp.me.com" and the incoming server is "mail.me.com". Otherwise, you enter your usual credentials (username@me.com) and password.

Incoming me.com email addresses have been working for incoming mail since last week.

Great! - No real indication as to when all of mobile me is going to get turned on, but this is a step in that direction. Whether it will be on prior to July 11 remains to be seen.

I just made the neccessary changes, and it definitely works! Cool! Only a few more days till the official launch of the web interface!

It's good to see Apple bringing a lot of this online early. Friday is going to be a big day for them what with iPhone 2.0 firmware, iTunes 7.7, full MobileMe rollout, and a presumed patch of some sort to OS X to change all the .Mac stuff to MobileMe.

Not all accounts are working yet.
Sending to mine never shows up, sending to my wife's shows up after about 15 minutes. I would not depend on the me.com addresses yet.

Lol - aren't Apple workers not supposed to be on such sites. Bit of a name and shame accident perhaps?

They are not allowed to participate in any sites related to Apple for up to five years after they leave the company. He should be ok with his blog, however posting on forums such as Mac Rumours is a no no.

Seeing as it's on fridgeday.com rather than here I guess that's ok by Apple's standards?

He doesn't work for Apple, but he didn't post it here, regardless; I did:

Just to clear any confusion...

I'm too lazy to mess around with it right now - just going to wait till mail.app gets updated.

It doesn't, and don't hold your breath. Apple is pitting the iPhone against the RIM devices. The last thing they would want to do is directly support them.

You will however still be able to use the BB Desktop Redirector, if you are into that sort of pain.

Goodbye .Mac, you have been good to me, minus the crappy iDisk backups. Maybe Steve wil give you a OS 9 style send off.

You won't have to use the BB Desktop Redirector, you can just set the account up in BIS and RIM will "push" new emails to you, however it's not true push, as BIS will only poll the .mac/.me mail server around every 15 minutes.

Gmail, Yahoo, and I think even Hotmail are true push though.

personally, i dont see any real cause why it shouldnt push the emails to the blackberry.
MobileMe is an exchange service and will push to any device that support exhcange.

If BlackBerry has software to support exchange, then MobileMe will push to it.
