In a video posted on Apple Music, first spotted on Twitter, Apple is teasing a "special event" that will take place on June 7 at 12 p.m PT, two hours after the main WWDC keynote begins. Currently not on the WWDC schedule, this event is related to Spatial Audio for Apple Music, which Apple has said will launch later this month.

Apple announced that Spatial Audio, powered by Dolby Atmos, will be coming to all Apple Music subscribers in June, in addition to higher-quality lossless streaming. The company has been promoting the new features across social media and within the Apple Music app; however, the mention of a special event dedicated fully to it had previously remained undisclosed.

Apple's official keynote begins at 10 a.m PT on June 7, and the State of the Union takes place four hours after at 2 p.m PT.

Nice !

It's been a long time since we almost didn't know anything about what's going to be shown in an Apple Event. Except the new 10 core MacBook Pro, we basically just have concepts (performance, security, food tracking, mental health...).

I think there will be lots of surprises.

Sounds good. I wonder if the spatial audio will be limited to Apple’s Pro buds only, or also expanded to the forthcoming AP3, Beats, etc.?

No need to wonder. Apple stated that Atmos and spatial audio will be avalaible for the entire airpods and beats lineup, including the first generation ones. So, any headphone with the W1 or the H1 chip will do.

It would be great to get an announcement x feature is available now instead of coming soon to a theater near you all the time.

Yes, but the latter possibility is fairly common, and quite frequent with Apple. It´s normal.

Any reason why this should be limited to Apple headphones? For instance, tidal offers its take, 360 spatial audio, and it works with any headphones no matter which manufacturer. You get the ability to customise the sound if you have Sony headphones because the tech originated with Sony, but it works with any.

It isn't.

The only real difference is that for Apple/Beats headphones it is turned on by default; for others it is turned off by default.

Sounds good. It will be good to get some 'from the horse's mouth' clarity on the spatial audio, lossless etc. situation. The drip-drip of news articles supposedly divulging what will and won't work with what hasn't been typically Apple.

It's also great that this topic is a separately billed event = more time for various other announcements & introductions from Apple during the main event keynote.

It would be great if Apple would do similar sessions for Photos (and Books, tv+, News+ et al) to give them all more room to breathe. They could say something like "here's a quick preview" during the keynote, "view this upcoming event for more detail" and have a consumer strand along with all of the developer-focussed events.
