Appleseed has a page for redemption codes, and they've added a new button to request a code specifically for DP2. I assume the dev page has something similar somewhere.

Well appleseed might have it but it's not on the mac dev center yet. I hope it will be there later.

It's stange that even though apple won't let you redeem a code more than once, yet they DO allow you to redownload Mavericks DP1 from the "Purchases" tab in the mas. Likewise for mountain lion and lion.

Don't use Safari then. Have no issues with Google CHROME. Don't think I've touched Safari in over a year

Chrome has an even uglier home screen full of little confusing icons, it's unbelievably ugly and power consuming, totally apart from where OS X and Safari are moving.

I agree with the Top Sites need to give you the option to not use Top Sites. For one, Google Chrome is a garbage browser for Macs. I don't know why anyone likes it, because it's buggy as hell compared to Safari. I've tried other Browsers but I get graphics errors such as not being able to scroll in certain Flash based Chatrooms unless I use Safari. Xat Chats does not work right for me on Google Chrome and works perfect on Safari. Mac OSX is built for Safari Browser, so I don't understand why anyone would use any of the other glitchy browsers.

Also, the reason I want to get rid of Top Sites, is because I browse porn and if I want someone to try out my Mac computer, I want them to be able to not see my TopSites at big dings bang tight holes and you get the point not to get too graphic. :p

I'm running Mac OS Mavericks on Macbook 13" May 09 model, and also they need to do away with that ugly wave background. I know you can change the wallpaper, I'm not an idiot, but I do think that is one of the ugliest Wallpapers I've ever seen Apple use. Couldn't they have chosen a much prettier Wave instead of that fugly color?

Wi-fi drops connectivity now. Ugh.

Try changing the channel on your Wi-fi router settings, that helped fix the problem for me in Mavericks preview 1. But I don't even think that was a Mavericks issue, since my brothers computer was messing up to with the Wireless. You might be running into something different. Post your specs and maybe someone can help you out, and also it might help to post it on the official Apple Website.

My update is stuck at the "Completing Installation" screen with "Less than a minute remaining". Been stuck here for close to 15 minutes.

That has happened with almost every Mac update I've had. It sometimes will count negatives, but all in all it finds out whatever is going on and it finally installs. I'm on a older Mac tho, which I don't know if that is the cause of the problem or if its gpu or something related.

It does, configure Safari to open new tabs and windows as blank pages instead of Top Sites and you're done. Very easy solution that has been around since Top Sites were added a few years ago.

You do realize Top Sites is the least of your concerns as people can just see it in your History and cookies?

To stop Safari from recording during your porn sessions, just turn on Private Browsing, and you're all set.

Just did the update, and amazed at what Apple is thinking. Because I was greeted with two "Completing Installation", one after the download, and the other after booting the system up..

This reminds me of the Windows OS configuring & updating process which I've always despised and hated, it was and still is one of the most annoying things about Windows Vista/7/8..

After using DP2 for two days I can say it is a noticeable improvement over DP1. Many bugs have been ironed out. The system is stable as a rock. Wicked fast.
As of this time, I did not find even one issue.

For me, DP2 is basically unusable... in DP1 I haven't noticed any bugs, but in DP2, almost everything buggy for me lol.

Believe it or not, not everyone uses their browser in the exact way you do. I personally detest Safari but I welcome giving it another try once 10.9 is available.

I also think Chrome works perfectly well on OS X, it's been my browser of choice ever since Google launched it years ago.

If you have a vanilla install, then there's a bar with Back, Forward, Reload, Home (if you enable it), the address bar, and a settings icon. How can that possibly be confusing?

I'd like Chrome if it didn't constantly use the discrete GPU thereby draining down my battery. It also installs all kinds of launchdemaons and launchagents all over the system, which is annoying. Also would be nice if they made it 64bit, otherwise a fairly nice browser.

No you are not done at that point. The dam icon still shows up in the Bookmark Bar and there is no way to remove it in DP2. In 6.0.5 there was a bookmarks pane in the preferences where you could remove the top site icon from showing up, but unfortunately that is now gone in 7.0.

Absolutely not true, I have been using it since the 15th of June and it has not impacted my main hard drive. Presently, I have Mavericks on a partitioned external hard drive.

I'm just telling you what they told me...I mean they did write it.

Why is that strange? You just said, when you redeem the code it shows up in your Purchases tab and you can download it again (including on a different machine). Why would you need to redeem a code more than once?

Hi,

could someone with a Mavericks Preview please check and post the Python version that comes with the OS?

1) go to Terminal, type "python" and post what version it displays

2) go to Macintosh HD / Library / Python and post the version numbers you see there.

This is important for some developers (like me) who are working with Python and need to know what version Apple ships with the OS by default. This is especially important since we are currently in the transition from Python 2.x to 3.x.

A python command from terminal nets this:

Code:
Python 2.7.5 (default, Jun 14 2013, 22:12:26)
[GCC 4.2.1 Compatible Apple LLVM 5.0 (clang-500.0.60)] on darwin
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>>

While, in that folder, I'm seeing 2.3, 2.5, 2.6, and 2.7.

Unfortunately apple only gave me 1 code for mavericks. So I redeemed it for DP1. But now I can't download the full installer for DP2. I can only get the update for DP2.

You can't seem to be able to get more codes in the mac dev center the same way you can in appleseed.

icloud keychain login problem....

Hello,

is there already a workaround found for those having the problem, with an empty window appearing, when trying to change something is icloud keychain setup...?

I tried rebooting several times, but all I got was this gray window again, which I have to "close hard"....

As far as I remind, in DP1 i could set a secure code, which does not work in DP2 any more....

Thx in advance

Nap Options

I've one question...

In the Activity Monitor there is a section called "energy" where there is a tab called "App Nap". Some of my apps have a "yes" in this section but my question is... the Nap option is only available on mac's with Apple official SSD, isn't it?
I've a MBP mid 2009 with a Crucial SSD, Can I use the Nap option?

App nap is the feature that basically pauses processes that are in the background and unused. It'll work on any mavericks-capable machine as far as we know. What you're thinking of is called power nap. It's a feature of newer ssd macs that wakes the machine up periodically to check for mail, updates, etc.

I love safari but for your point and using chrome as my secondary browser the scrolling performance is horrible in chrome under retina displays.

Mavericks runs great on my Early 2011 MacBook Pro but had a hiccup on my iMac from the same era- in iMovie all the faces turned purple- just like Violet in Willy Wonka, I guess I should've done a screenshot. Aside from Crossover not working right, everything else was pretty solid.

Actually this isn't good news to me. It means Apple is just fixing bugs and close to the final version which likely means what we see now is what we are going to get in the end. What that means to me is we're getting a "Snow Leopard" under the hood release and not the Jony Ive magic I was hoping for. That frosted glass dock drives me crazy!

It's not even in beta yet. DP is Developer Preview. It's like alpha -- it's not feature complete and it's not meant for everyday use. It's meant only for testing development code.

Actually for Apple terms, this is a beta. There are no "betas" in Apple's development cycle. There is also the Appleseed program and there you won't find developers, but beta testers...Appleseed gets the same versions as developers.
