iPhone unit sales actually "beat," but the ARPU fell so revenue was a major miss. Now the iPhone SE's pricing makes lots of sense.

Mac sales were down to 4.03 million ($5.1 billion), and iPad was down to 10.25 million units at $4.41 billion. That, plus the resale value of the 12.9" iPad Pro lead me to believe the big iPad isn't selling well (but hopefully the new 9.7" iPad Pro will sell well).

ARPU will tank next quarter once the SE is put into the equation.

Last years figures were a massive spike, disregard them and they are on steady growth. But, the market doesn't want you to see that, they want to drive Apple as low as possible through the year so they can buy in cheap before the new kit in September/October then dump the stock after it bounces back to make an absolute killing this is their wet dream come true.

YoY changes are pointless to read into. Just look at the previous years growth, they have a very long way to fall before they could be considered failing.

10 Billion in pure profit is going to be like 80% of all actual smart phone profits, they're doing superb by all account still with just a few phones updated yearly it's astounding.

I'm not a lover of apple as a company i think they stink at a lot of things but calling this anything other than roaring success is idiotic.

Finally. This is what Apple gets for holding back innovation and features and nickle and diming consumers with incremental upgrades and bare minimum specs.
Exactly people will not pay top dollar for mediocre innovation. It was only a matter of time before all of the phone makers made their phones cheaper and arguably better. With no subsidies it's only going to get worse.

and man that is a lot of eggs in one basket for the iPhone.

Look for the downgrades coming from analysts soon. Apple still betting on branding to keep the momentum going. Secretly in the development lab, they snicker... "hey, let's just move the power button to the top and call it ip5! it'll sell millions to the suckers!"

Apple really needs to up their game, they should really think about price changes on some of their products, for example I was comparing the Macbook 12 inch line to the 13inch Pro line, and I said why does Apple even still have the Macbook line again? Also stop with the small updates on the iPhones, they have the money and the R&D to really push the iPhone but instead they want to do a little here and there. Its time for a slight change here.

With the iPhone SE, Apple Watch price cuts, new MacBooks coming out at WWDC, I think Q3 profits will be bigger than last year. Now's a good time to buy.

Gross margin for the quarter was 39.4 percent compared to 40.8 percent in the year-ago quarter.
And here you see the clever concept behind the iPhone SE, at 250 dollar less it's still the same profit margin.

No innovation; too much greed. If the standard model iPhone 7 comes with 16 GB storage standard, I will laugh, shake my head and then Abandon ship for Android.

I would bet it'll be 32GB entry... just to upsell... when in reality what's considered good minimum today is 64GB.

Spot on...Back in 2007, I praised Apple with their high quality and told all my family/friends to get Macs (then later iPhones/iPads). Since 2014, I no longer am an Apple cheerleader when my Photos randomly don't sync, my flagship $300 iPhone only comes with 16GB etc...
