Seriously? BBY is saying they'll have your watch to you a week from right now, over Apple's "yeah maybe you'll see it in three weeks, maybe you'll see it in a month. What do you want from us? We're Apple and you let us get away with this sort of BS with your blind idolatry." I've been an Elite Rewards Member with BBY for going on 6 years now (basically as long as they've had the program) and I've never had them miss a shipment date once. On top of that, BBY gives you twice as long to return items than Apple, plus BBY also gives you points for every purchase which can be used for gift certificates towards your next purchase. Every 250 bucks gets you 5 bucks back in coupons. It's not a lot, but it's a heck of a lot more than Apple offers, which is to say not a GD thing at all. So loyalty rewards, longer return period, and a solid guaranteed delivery date two days after the official launch versus Apple's rough ballpark figure a month from now, but you're going with Apple because you wouldn't (personally) trust Best Buy?

Ok man. You be you.

Thanks for that, you have a point.

BBY is amazing, and that is why they can deliver it so fast... but that doesn't mean the watch is not selling well, does it? BBY can comply with the demand, Apple.com can't. Still...it's a HUGE demand.

The second part of my story is: Today, after posting that, I realized I didn't have a solid argument to wait almost 2 months. I cancelled my order at Apple.com, and tried to buy it from Best Buy, My BBY order got cancelled twice because they don't like my billing address. So I decided to wait until the :apple:Ws2 launches here (Colombia) and pay 50% more (around $600) for the watch :(

They've sold more smart watches that all the competition combined. They've sold more wrist watches, smart or not, in the same period of time than everyone except Rolex. Just how many do they need to sell before it's "selling well" by your metrics?

Also, my girlfriend linked me this article because she is eagerly waiting to dump her Garmin in favor of a Series 2 for her morning run, because it will do everything the Garmin does, and then still be useful for other things the other 23 hours of the day.

I suggest about 18 hours a day. You forgot to take into account charge time :)

Again no... YOU think it's terrible and of course you are in your every right to think so, but to make it a general statement? Just no.

I've had several running watches and a lot of mechanical watches both new and vintage and haven't used any of them since I got my Apple Watch a year ago. Terrible? Not at all. For everyone? Of course not

Anyone that suggest such a comment has no knowledge or deep appreciation of a true mechanical watch.

Okay so you're the one deciding what people should think about this product or mechanical watches? I give up... You're not worth wasting debating time on - as I said - for everyone? Of course not - I respect the product is not for you, and not for a lot of other people, but terrible? No way.. As I said I have several mechanical watches, still have them, and still appreciate the fine mechanical part of it - both my 1960s vintage and new divers... But the truth just is, I haven't really used them in the last 12 months where the Apple watch has been on my wrist. Does it need improvement? Of course. Terrible? Nope - not in my view.

I said the above because you're comparing chalk and cheese.

You cannot compare a timeless Swiss timepiece to a gadget that has a limited lifespan of at most, 4-5 years. (And I'm being very generous).

If you want to switch from your mechanical watches to a (IMHO), very ugly Apple Watch then that's your prerogative but to say it'll overtake a classic watch is total nonsense.

Either way, smart watches are a (again IMHO), a fad for those who can afford them and eventually they will become the Casio calculators of the 90's.

The reality is Swiss watch makers don't care. It became headline news when Apple Watch was first released thanks to the genius Apple marketing machine, but now that reality has set in, they are nothing more than toys for those fortunate enough to be able to afford one.

I'll finish with the following. If you can somehow tell me an Apple Watch is more timeless, elegant and simply more brilliant than any of the following, I'll debate it with you.

I partially agree with you. I've always said "The last technology of a generation is always better than the first technology of the next generation". For example, the first electric trains where slower and more inconvenient than the last vapor trains ever made... but a few years later, all we had were electric trains. Gas cars are getting old, in a few years we will only see electric cars, and so on...

This is how new technologies are born. Look at the iPhone, remember how cellphones were the year before iPhone, and how they changed the year after...

I still think my Blackberry is amazing, and my Nokia 2600.. but those are now classics, and I admire as much as you admire the beautiful watches in the video, but some people prefer new technologies and prefer an Apple Watch. Some others, like you, like to keep admiring clasic watches. Both have reasons and arguments, but IMHO both are right.

I promised I would debate it with you if you suggested your opinion so fair enough.

Once again, your comparison of steam vs electric trains is irrelevant. Steam technology is limited by speed, reliability, comfort, environmental factors and cost and more. Electric trains resolve most, if not all those issues.

The Apple Watch doesn't resolve anything. It merely adds more interference in our lives (IMHO), where otherwise not needed.

A mechanical watch (lets say a Rolex purely because it's probably the best known premium brand), is a piece of jewellery. It's also a statement of craftsmanship and is a timeless piece. It'll hold 80% of it's value. It will last generations, and people will always look at it and say, "wow". It's beautiful to those who like Rolex's. (I lean towards IWC or Zenith).

An Apple Watch is just like an iPhone. It'll attract wows at first because it's new. But within 4 years, it's more or less worthless and will probably end up in a drawer, somewhere it's not seen. Within 10 years, you might find it again and throw it in the bin.

It's just a mass-produced gadget.

My point in all this is the Swiss Watch industry don't care. It was a headline made up by the media and latched onto by Apple's superb marketing machine.

If you buy an Apple Watch, you do so because you like a gadget. If you buy a premium Swiss timepiece, you do so because you admire it and you will most likely keep it for life and to hopefully pass on beyond that.

The two are not comparable and it annoys me how Apple continues to spout bull with regards to the industry and compare themselves to some of the most classic and iconic Swiss watch brands. Moreover, so many people believe it!

Yes... at least Apple was honest from the beginning. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but seems like a BBY strategy to attract customers. Or at least Apple had a better idea of how it would sell

You promised that to xDKP, not to me.

Well... I think no one needs a porn scene in a watch all day (what does that resolves?!), but your video shows a few ones with it. I prefer having my burt calories, activity track, heart beat, e-mail, messages, etc (that MAY resolves some people's needs, doesn't it??), than a tiny couple having sex in my screen. This comment was not intended to discredit the art and effort needed to have two tiny pieces of metal moving, I understand your point, but I also think you are not being reasonable.

Here I agree with you. But it all depends wether you are looking to buy jewelry or a smart watch. For some, spending almost 20k in a gold smartwatch is justified, for others (like me) it's not. It all comes down to how much money you are willing to spend and what you want to have. If there is someone willing to buy, there will always be someone willing to sell.

I think Apple is just talking about market share, numers, money, etc. not trying to compare to classic watches makers. Personally, I don't care if the Apple Watch is selling better than Rolex, I don't want a Rolex, I want an Apple Watch.
