With the leak of an early MacBook Air prototype, it seems a few more details are emerging about Apple's upcoming release. - AppleInsider adds some claims which we've summarized here:

- The 11.6-inch MacBook Air won't replace the 13.3-Inch model but will complement it as a cheaper option
- Both models will be unibody designs with single button trackpads
- It will be slightly thicker than a standard USB port at its thickest point.

Forum user diddl14 has labeled the leaked picture with these notes and speculation from the forum thread:

- Despite the labeling above, the source of the image reports it is a 13" model, not an 11".
- The chips above do represent an SSD controller/interface
- The silver components are believed to be off-the-shelf batteries which may be replaced with a custom form-fitting battery in the final production
- The prototype was using the same Core 2 Duo processor as the current MacBook Air
- The port on the right is not believed to be another USB port
- The prototype has 2GB of memory
- The source of the leaked image reports a 1440x900 resolution to the 13" model.

What ever happens. I can't imagine Apple selling much if they don't put 4GB RAM inside. Or at least make 4GB a BTO. A faster chip than the C2D would be nice, but I would rather have the trusty Core 2 Duo with a graphics card that blows aways Intel's IGP. Maybe the new MBA will have a slightly underclocked Nvidia Geforce 320M? Either way, I can't wait for Wednesday. I'm more excited about the software since I just got my MacBook Pro, and obviously can't buy a new Macintosh for a while.

Agreed on the 4GB of RAM...

I would like to see more about the SSD, I saw something about it possibly being a proprietary design? I'm thinking of putting an SSD in one of my MacBook Pros, I hear they are really good.

I am really curios of how thin this will be.

Praying for a 1440x900 screen for the 13"

If they put it in the air, it has to be in the 13"mbp

This, and an i3 processor, and I'm buying an Air. And I think the 13" MacBooks/MBPs will finally be up-to-date.

I'd love to see that bump in resolution. That would make it a product worth getting. That and perhaps the trackpad. I wonder what the price point will be. I'd probably get rid of my macbook air once I see how things come out.

I'd consider one if it was 4GB of RAM minimum. Due to the lack of upgradability, I'd get 8 if they had it as BTO.

(Well, I would if my 13" MBP wasn't going strong.)

I would definitely go for it if they put in FireWire, but I doubt that's ever going to happen. Pity, as it'd make a great portable audio/video capture device.

Finger's Crossed for MacBook Pro Update

All these leaks about a new MacBook Air but no info on an update for MacBook Pro's is starting to disappoint me a bit... I hope there's some upgrades to the MacBook Pro line. I've been waiting a long time for it.

no multi touch track pad?!

LAME?!

if the 11inch is cheaper than the 13inch, and the 13inch is significantly cheaper than the previous.

I would guess these as starting prices
13inch $1100-1200
11inch $800-900

thickest part only slightly thicker than usb <--- Awesome

only one usb <--- dang

Could be great

Hmm...Ive never been the dude to complain about not having 29 USB ports on a laptop, but 1 is just silly. C2D is sort of a given (being Apple) and the standard SSD is a great idea. Forgot who talked about it, but a 330m in this thing? Keep smoking crack. IF, they crammed the 1440x900 in the 11inch youd be looking at a GREAT ~150 ppi. Please oh please Mista!

I dunno about audio/video capture with an MBA. It would be seriously underpowered for that.

Actually I think that 4GB BTO is what was needed for the 2010 (last) model. Looking forward i think that a laptop should be expandable or BTO to 8GB in 2011. As all other Mac laptops already are.

Wow these leaks are amazing. Where are they coming from originally? I guess it's "confirmed" that we will see an 11" Air? It will be interesting to see on Wednesday. Hopefully the broadcast will be a live streaming. :)

With Sandy Bridge mobile CPUs coming in 3-6 months, I don't think there will be much update to MBPs next week. Sandy Bridge ULV chips are not due till next summer on the other hand, hence the MBA update
