There are always leaks of this **** before some press conference or whatever. It just shows how they are definitely controlled by Apple just to wet the geek's pants.

Praying for a 1440x900 screen for the 13"

If they put it in the air, it has to be in the 13"mbp

Yes, 1440x900 on a 13' would be sweeeeeet, if only they will BTO a matte screen, I'll buy that so fast your head would spin.

I'm intrigued by the mystery port. I'm going to guess either gigabit ethernet or Firewire 800. I can't think which would be more useful, but I'd probably say Ethernet, for business customers. Not that Apple has a huge amount but I've always thought the Air most appeals to this demographic.

I agree. Sony have 13.1" 1080p screens, 1400x900 is not exactly excessive. It provides a good resolution for productivity in a compact form factor.

I dunno about audio/video capture with an MBA. It would be seriously underpowered for that.

Mmm… That's a G3. No one would expect it to be Mac Pro fast, but it would cope. People have done digital editing on less powerful machines than the new Air Apple will launch on the 20th.

Why do you think that? You could edit DV video on G3/G4 machines and on an iMac G5 even HDV could be edited well using Final Cut Express.

When a computer is small and looks "cute" many people think it is underpowered for anything but browsing, media consumption or light office work. But many movies and TV shows have been edited on machines with much lower specs than this new notebook.

Of course, you probably don't want to edit video on an 11'' screen, but a C2D is more than capable to do it.

oh heck yes. This looks promising. 11" with 720p would be sweet!

I would guess these as starting prices
13inch $1100-1200
11inch $800-900

This is the biggest fantasy I've seen in years.

A Mac laptop for $800-$900??

...I gotta see that. That would be a record. Suspect the cheapest price at $999 for an OSX device. $1299 for the 13". That's more like it.

Mystery Port

Looking at the dimensions from the rather shonky image, it's not deep enough for any of the following:

USB (natch)
Firewire
HDMI (but there the mini Display Port which should cover this)

However, it is just about the right size for...

... e-Sata (parts i've seen are around 19mm by 14mm) which comparing it to the USB and mag-safe connector feel about the right size.

So, ppl have been crying for e-SATA interfaces for the last 2 generations of Macs, is this the time now?

YAY! My biggest fear is not seeing a 13 inch macbook air on wednesday... I've been waiting so long for one, but I won't buy it if it's only 11...

So I rly hope that rumor is true :)

Still sucks

They need to make it a touch machine/ tablet. It's not wise to go any lower on the prices points. Future problems will appear in the product line ir they do that.

13" -and- 11" - nice options

An 11" unit would make sense assuming the price point is right. How about $999 or even $699? For those who dislike the iPad because it's not a content creation machine, this sort of uber-netbook (assuming $699) would make sense. However, I'll be the first to admit that a $699 price point for a Macintosh probably isn't in the cards.

(But I'd buy one at $699, for sure!) :D

Mac mini only costed 600

And 999 and 900 are not that big of difference

Why Bother?

Why did Apple bother making a new one of its failure devices. its a bit like Apple making an even better newton, it wasn't possible. and if that "not believed to be a USB port???" is correct it still will be a failed device, even if it did have an SD card slot, it needs to have at least 2 USB's. And a processor which is capable of being better than the previous one. an i3 will just make it more responsive and a little bit faster. Looking at the Thumb scoop in this picture it looks like the previous model, and the measurement lines are also not correct judging by how far away the camera is to the machine. i think this is just a mock up :apple:

The Air is a fascinating product because thin, light, powerful, cool temperatures and a reasonable sticker price are clearly difficult and in many cases contradictory goals to align.

If Apple went with intel i3/5/7 and intel graphics would people be happy?
(thin, light, cool temperatures, reasonable sticker price but not powerful)

If Apple went with intel i* and discrete graphics and the thing ran like a furnace would people be happy?
(thin, light, reasonable sticker price, powerful but not cool)

If Apple went with intel i* and discrete graphics and the thing was as thick encyclopaedia would people be happy?
(powerful, cool temperatures, reasonable sticker price, maybe light but certainly not thin)

If Apple went with intel i* and discrete graphics and charged more for it than their 17" model would people be happy?
(powerful, cool temperatures, light, thin but no reasonable sticker price)

I guess we'll all be very interested to see which trade offs they go for.

If it is really 2G ram and C2d it's useless. C2D is bad but I could live with it of it's due to the GPU. 2 G ram is ridiculous, let's hope it's prototype only...

Definitely interesting. I see the 11" becoming the new MacBook for all, at a price under $999. How far under $999 is the question.

That's the big dealbreaker for me, besides price. Sometimes, I need to be connected to the Internet when there's no wifi. I'm a network guy, so for those times where I need to leave the office and test jacks, I bring my iBook. Ethernet is a must at my job.

I love my iBook, and it works just fine, but I'd sure love a reason to upgrade to an Intel machine too. A cheap, small, light, and very portable MacBook Air would be my perfect reason. Not to mention a great addition to the iFamily.

Next thing we will know is it will be 3G, and they will put the antenna underneath the palm rest, so the signal will drop :p

Actually, I'm running a C2D iMac with 2GB RAM and it is far from useless. What high-powered apps would you be thinking of using on an 11" Air?
