Anybody know if the Lion release on the usb drive from Apple includes the Developer Tools (xcode etc)?

No, XCode is available on the Mac App Store now. It is not distributed with OS X anymore.

Actually it appears the bare OS is on the USB. I had no "customize" options available. It then prompted me after install to download my printer drivers, so they were not part of the install.

Customize has been unavailable no matter how I've installed (App Store, burned DVD or official USB drive)

I only installed it via the apple USB, I was unaware of the fact. Given that there is no option to customize its still safe to assume that the developer tools is not included on the USB :)
