I wonder if anyone else has my display which seems to be a rare 13" 9CDF since no one here reports having a similar one.

And I wonder specifically whether Anandtech's model was the same as yours, as their tests found that it better contrast and deeper blacks than the 15.4" MBP whereas my Air's 9CF0's seems rather dull and washed out (I find reading a bit difficult actually).

Look in System Preferences, Display - Color. Open the default profile, scroll down to bottom and look at make/model info.

I have a 9CDF on 13.3" MBA, manufacturer 0610.

Doing the ioreg shows LP133WP1-TPA1.

Looking for profiles if anyone has a calibration tool and has built one.

Must have done something wrong... :(

Just got mine today, its a 13.3" 128GB 4GB. I have the 9CDF and it looks amazing... super bright, contrast is great, and colors look really good.

Your graft clearly shows the 13" mba color gamut is well below srgb. As with latest mbp 13"and 15" they are closely match the srgb green diagram.

I am getting a mba 13" myself tomorrow to replace a i5 mbp 15. Hopefulyy it wont be a dramatic decrease in color quality. Will calibrate with colormunki and post here of course.

I got my 2.13GHz/4GB unit in today and imported the Spyder3 profile I had from the 1.86GHz unit whose graph I shared earlier. I then re-calibrated the 2.13 and compared the results with the profile imported from the 1.86. They're virtually identical to each other, so that's potentially good news for profile sharers. The display in the 2.13 is also 9CF0.

On contrast: Good numbers on both units. At "0" brightness (up one notch), Contrast is over 10000:1. At 25% brightness, over 4000:1. From 50% on up the numbers get closer to Anand's. I don't have exact numbers in front of me and also assume we're both using different methodologies, so they're not exactly apples/oranges, but in the light I'm used to working in, very encouraging results for everything except color gamut.

Is this a 'warm' screen or a 'cool' one?

Looks to be slightly on the warm side with the default profile. Tried the other 13" profiles posted here and they definitely don't work on for me, I didn't have them on long but perhaps I should again to see the color tone - I recall too much of a blue-ish tinge.

I can tell the contrast ratio is very high on this display. My 15" MBP did have a very good color profile that I picked off here from someone's calibration.

So 9CDF looks like it's warmer than 9CF0?

I wonder how many different panels Apple have used

Wish I had 2 side by side to compare. The profile from bcaslis turns my screen into a greenish hue.

Really? Interesting. The 9CF0 screen by default is very blue without a color profile. Are you using the first one uploaded or the later corrected one?

Buy the inexpensive Huey calibrator or download supercal. The former is better, the latter is still much better than apple's built in.

MBA 13" 9CDF profile

There you go.
Profile for MBA 13" with 9CDF panel. Calibrated with Colormunki and iColor Display.
Set to 6500k, gamma 2.2 and brightness 120cdm (set the slider pin in system preferences>display to above the last letter 's' on the word brightness )

As with Bcaslis findings, blues are more to purple-ish which is a symptom of a low color gamut panel.
Color gamut is definitely way below the latest mbp 15"; means it couldnt produce as much color. A compromise for thinner aesthetic. But then color is still more vivid than some other notebook specially compared to netbook thanks to the amazing black level and contrast.

Hopefully apple will pump up the color gamut to match with the mbp in next iteration. ;)

Woohoo, thanks so much. Will try it the first chance I get this evening - glad to see someone post a 9CDF profile.

I tried a SuperCal calibration but ended up with a really purple-ish tinge. Not sure if I did it right, but maybe its another sign of the lower gamut.

Every screen, even the same model, is different and using another display's calibrated profile is worthless. Even on the same screen, color shifts over time, and you should calibrate at least once a year.

Hardly worthless... it won't be perfect for professional use, but in a lot of cases these profiles can provide a much better image that the default shipped from the factory. Be really nice if all laptops could come with calibrated profiles for its installed display at the factory though.

I had two MBA 13"s. 1.86GHz and 2.13GHz. Both have 9FC0 displays and when I calibrated both and interchanged profiles they measure out at almost identical to each other. They overlaid on top of each other so closely that I could barely perceive any difference at all.

Not to say this would be the case ALL the time, but it factually disproves the "worthless" assertion.

What are users feelings about the blacks on the 9CF0 display? I'm not so impressed with mine. I'm guessing the folks at Anandtech reviewed a model with 9CDF. Has anybody been able to compare the two models side-by-side?

ton - the 9CDF profile you posted does work well for my display! Much more natural colors now.
