Honestly, this whole calling/3G thing is a joke. Apple won't compete with their own product. And VoIP is not the "easy-Apple-style", it would be confusing for most iPhone Users (what, I can call, but I don't have my own number?!)

Same for rear camera. I think to keep a certain distance to the iPhone, there will be only a little VGA-front facing camera, enough for Facetime. That would explain the thinness of the iPod Touch as well.

Yes I know we all have our nice little wishes, but from a realistic point of view, we will probably see:
- Retina Display
- Gyroscope (as the iPod is a popular gaming machine)
- Same Form Factor (3,5)
- 64 GB max (128 is unlikely)
- Front facing camera

That's my guess, just in my experience with Apple updates.

I couldn't agree more. VOIP calling? No way. Rear facing camera? I'd love one, but I'm not holding my breath.

Any chance of the nano/shuffle having a retina display? I might consider watching movies on that 3 cm screen.

It needs to be thinner and have 128gb of memory, 3g and VOIP calling. I DEMAND THAT THIS HAPPEN! Which is probably not realistic, but if it happens I'll happily shell out my $500.

...

I couldn't care any less about retina display or face time. Give me 3G and the same rear video cam as the iPhone and I will buy one

"The current iPod touch measures in at 0.33 inches deep at its thickest point, while the iPhone 4 is essentially of uniform thickness at 0.37 inches."

Isn't 0.37" *thicker* than 0.33"? Not to mention the new Touch is said to be a uniform thickness, while existing touch is 0.33" "at its thickest point".

Try reading that again. iPhone 4, not iPod Touch 4. iPhones have always been thicker than the same generation of iPod Touch.

im not surprised if they do have and front and rear camera in such a thin form factor. if you've seen the new generation of spy cameras on the market.. they can fit in a shirt button! PLUS practically every internet device phone out now has a rear camera. It's about time Apple steps it up!

So true.

Those waiting for a back facing cam or 3G WILL be disapointed.

Remember September '09? I was the one waiting for the 3GS with a camera.
1 year later: I got a brand new iPhone 4 i my hands right now.

As said before Apple won't cannibalize its own market. Move on guys, get and iPhone if you want a phone...and 2 cameras!

Although I do not think it will have VOIP built in I do feel it is time for use to be pushed into a VOIP market at this point. If anyone can make that trend come alive it is Apple

This worries me. I've been holding off my birthday Touch purchase (mine was stolen by a "friend") for months now in hopes of consolidating my music player with my digital camera. I'm really hoping for a camera on par with the IP4, but these thinness rumors are making me pessimistic. :(

don't care about the thinness I just want it with a camera

I think Apple's going to leave out a rear facing camera at this point. They want to pressure us to buy an iPhone 4 for that functionality.

I'm not holding my breath on this. The only thing that will get me to upgrade my touch is a nice quality rear camera. But the more I hear, the more I think it will be a low quality alternative at best, and a front only VGA facetime camera (no rear cam) at worst.

Don't get me wrong, Engadget's coverage was always good. But I'm looking forward to see actual live streaming. Hope they continue to do this.

I do however think them streaming this conference is tying in with something they have to reveal today.
