Just updated to 10.10.3 on the GTX 980 and the HDMI switch trick works for 4k 60hz on the PQ321q.

Thanks MacvidCards! I wish there was an easier way but I can live with this, thanks again for figuring this out.

On a side note I was VERY surprised to see that the GT120 worked in 4k 30hz, I used that to update and was expecting a half screen distorted image, pretty cool.

UPDATE:
Crap... the HDMI trick worked once then doesn't anymore after a restart...****! Does anyone have any ideas?

Okay so I am able to set it to DP 1.1 mode and then switch to DP1.2 after the computer starts and have working 4k 60hz

I wish there was another way, because, as stated before, the Asus PQ321q has the worst button combo to change the DP mode...

Did you have HDMI plugged in an choosen as input at Display?

I have been able to use this means for several boots now, jut switching to DP once at desktop, then removing HDMI cable from display to avoid a 2nd desktop.

Yes this worked the first time and then I couldn't get it to work again no matter what. Whenever I switch to display port from HDMI it looks like the computer restarts from a kernel panic or something. I can't tell cause there is no video but then switching back to Hdmi after a while gets to the desktop with a "your computer had a problem had to restart etc..."

Has anyone tried this trick in 10.10.4 to see if it still works, I am thinking about upgrading, trim would be nice, but 10.10.3 is working great now so I don't want to break it.

I've just delved into getting my machine to work with the up2414q. However, it appears that:
1. Apple is limiting 4K MST support to very limited hardware (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202856)
2. Apple has gone back to AMD, so supporting native NVIDIA drivers are not a possibility.

I'm not confident Nvidia will address this any time in the future... I guess I'll stick with a Windows 10 PC. Moving to the p2415q is not an option due to the limited color space.

Apologies for raising an old thread, but I've been banging my head trying to get this to work -- may save someone else some heartache.

Just registered to say THANK YOU!

The black list worked!

My UP2414Q + GTX970 now working 4K@60Hz!

I don't need the HDMI cable connected, only need to switch from DP 1.1 to DP 1.2 after boot to desktop.

OS X: 10.10.5
NVIDIA Driver: 346.02.03f01
Machine: iMac12,2
Board-ID: Mac-942B59F58194171B

Try to use clover to change the board id if possible. I'm using a hack here, UP2414Q now works at 4K@60Hz.

MST is just not very liked by the industry. It was like a stop-gap technology that is going to die off quick. Eizo wrote an article on why SST is better and explain all about hi dpi

http://www.eizoglobal.com/library/basics/pixel_density_4k/

http://www.eizoglobal.com/library/basics/eizo_4k_monitors/

'As for other limitations on 4K 60Hz display besides the interface, they vary depending on the display, but there are basically no problems when it comes to the FlexScan EV3237. This is because SST (Single Stream Transport) is the method of 4K 60Hz transmission used by the FlexScan EV3237 via DisplayPort, and it is capable of 4K display without any special settings. However, there are some graphics cards that support DisplayPort 1.2 but do not support SST, so it would be a good idea to check at the time of purchase just in case.

Some products from other companies use DisplayPort's MST (Multi-Stream Transport) as the method of transmission and this creates some limitations. With the MST method, the 4K signal is split in two (two 1920 x 2160 pixel screens), so the graphics driver's extension function (such as AMD's EyeFinity) has to be used to combine them into a single screen.'

**UPDATE**

I swapped out my Velocity x2 last night for the Velocity x2 Duo so I could have both my Bootcamp SSD and OS X SSD on one card and now I don't need to switch from DP1.1 to DP1.2(MST) when I start up, it just works.

Whatever the reason, I am extremely happy, I didn't change anything else, still on 10.10.4 and latest Nvidia drivers with the 980.

10.10.4 here and working. I need to switch from DP1.1 to DP1.2 after boot.

I decided to give this a try today.
Cloned my 10.10.1 first, so I can at least go back and than updated to 10.10.5 and 346.02.0.f01, applied the original hack and now can't get 60hz to work any longer.

MacPro 5.1 (Mac-F221BEC8)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2048 MB

On a good note I can be 'stuck' on 10.10.1 with a gorgeous screen and deal with apple's WIFI problems.

Has anyone gotten this to work on El Capitan? I've tried it on my 2010 Mac Pro with GTX 980 on 10.11.3 and it gives me a forced restart and "your computer restarted because of a problem".

Gotten what to work with El Capitan? 60Hz?

If it's 60Hz you're talking about, yes, it works fine. All you need to do is have the Nvidia web drivers installed and enabled.

When you say "If it's 60Hz you're talking about, yes, it works fine."
What type of monitor are you referring to ?

I could not make the hack work on Asus PQ231, 10.10.5
I'm stuck in 10.10.1 and wish to upgrade, but if I do upgrade than I lose 60Hz

I'm not using any hack. I'm just using the Nvidia Web Drivers with a GTX 980 and 60Hz works fine with my Dell P2715Q monitor.

You only need to do the hacks if you are using MST. If your monitor supports SST, there's no need to do any hacking.
