Still can't play videos picture-in-picture or background, but hey, dark mode guys!

I'm still trying to understand why search and view history is to be cleared within the app itself vs in the main iOS settings location. I'm not even signed into nor ever have to the youtube app. I don't use gmail either and never signed into iOS using that account, so why am I being tracked? Yeah dark mode.

Apple take this as a hint and offer iOS real dark mode for iPhone X at the very least.

I just got it but it wasn't a software update. If you close the app (make sure it's closed and not open in the background) then relaunch and it will ask you do you want to turn on dark mode? YES!!

While this is a nice addition, it's still missing essential features like background playback and picture-in-picture. Not to mention their custom video player doesn't include an on-screen volume control (what's so wrong with the stock player available to all iOS apps, Google?) and the comments display is a waste of time.

If I ever get any spare time I'm going to write my own custom YouTube app and put it on GitHub so anyone can build and install it rather than something that Google can have disappeared from the App Store.

Background playback? I’ve had that for a while..

Question.. I have my app updated to version 13.08, being an update released a week ago. And today I opened my app after reading this article, and I got a pop “do you want to check out the new dark theme”... and it got me thinking, how did google add a new feature to the app without an update? Surely it’s not an update like the map etc, where it’s server side. This is a UI feature, and how can it get updated without the app being updated through the App Store?

It's really inconsistent.. It goes back to being white all the time so I have to re-enable the feature all the time. Really annoying.

Yeah it makes you wonder if they have control of your phone without you knowing in the background.

YouTube is adding a new dark theme to its iOS app, which is rolling out to iOS users starting today, reports The Verge.

The new theme, once available, can be activated by tapping on your account icon, selecting settings, and choosing "dark theme" to turn it on. Dark theme will invert many of the colors of the YouTube AI, replacing the traditional white background with a black background.

YouTube introduced a hidden dark mode feature for the desktop starting last year, and since then, the feature has been one of the most requested for its mobile apps.

The dark theme for mobile devices has been in testing for the last few months and it has been previously available to a small number of YouTube users.

You may not see the new dark theme available as an option right away, but it should be rolling out to all iOS users over the course of the day. YouTube also says a dark mode is coming to Android in the near future.

YouTube is a free download for iPhone and iPad. [Direct Link]

YouTube's Dark Mode is the laziest I've seen. Twitter looks gorgeous in dark mode. They didn't just change the white to black and the text from black to white like YouTube, the interface is wholly different and complements the service.

Can I finally delete my browsing history and other privacy-related data in the app? This is what kept me from using the YouTube app in the past.

Yes in setting you can clear your watched history and below that is another option to clear your search history.
