I have a system with the following specifications:
Machine Name: iBook G4
Machine Model: PowerBook6,7
CPU Type: PowerPC G4
System Version: Mac OS X 10.4.7 (8J135)
My machine has begun to randomly activate the key combination "esc ` tab 2 w s x" causing the display brightness to increase and the computer to generally go haywire (it tends to be difficult to effectively accomplish anything when said key combination is incessantly overriding your actions).
Sometimes the problem does not occur, while other times the keyboard cuts out entirely (excepting sporadic exclamations of "2wsx esc ` tab"). The mouse touchpad seems unaffected.
When first this problem occurred I reset the PRAM and ensured my OS software was updated. This worked for a short period, but the problem reappeared for no particular reason. Now I no longer seem able to reset the PRAM, for when I attempt to do so the boot sequence is interrupted and I am given a DOS-like screen displaying bootup information, ending in:
"If you wish to boot the system, but stay in single user mode:
/sh /etc/rc
localhost: root#
Display all 970 possibilities? (y or n)"
The keyboard does not seem to read my input at this screen, however the above mentioned characters eventually begin to express themselves on the screen.
Ideas?
