Macbook Pro '10 edition - video problem - video card crash?

Alright so I get to class, open up my 2010 Macbook Pro 15'(fully loaded). I close VLC to save on battery life and then I end up with the screen in the pictures below. I forced restart, and same problem.

My guess is that when I closed VLC it turned back to the Integrated Video Card. Now I can't start the computer.

What does everyone think? I'm most likely taking to Apple Store tonight.

How long does it normally take Apple to fix issues like this?

could be logic board(mainly video cards portion) or memory,

either way would have to be ordered in "most" cases and would take a few days depending on your location.

Kinda what I figured. Thing is though that I can see the booting Apple logo, but as soon as it would normally ask for a login/password screen goes nuts.

Well then the issue could be software.
Most cases if its hardware it would happen right when you turn on your computer.
However you saying that when he loads up the OS past the grey apple,it gets up screwed up.
If you the boot from the install discs and there is no issues.Then the issue sound software

Also If the apple store boots from external HD and there is no issues.

Then the question is what did you put on your computer

Looks like a software related problem, specially if you see the boot screen without problems. Just boot form the install disk or from an external HD, if it goes well then reinstall your OS.
