2 macs, 1 iPhoto Library

Is there a way to open 1 library on 2 macs at the same time? Right now it just says that its locked. I have given network permissions to the other mac... Any suggestions? I am trying the sparse disc image now, but my library is 112gb and would like to avoid wasting to much transfer time.
