Fortnightly Challenge - May 30 thru June 12

Challenge topic(s): Long/Short Exposure and/or Selective Focus

The challenge will run from right now until : 11:59PM June 12

Be sure to visit and post your images in our Flickr group.

Rules:
1. Photos should be your own work.
2. Produced within the challenge period if possible.
3. All positive feedback and criticism is encouraged and welcome if you posted or not.
4. There is no real limit to the number of photos you may enter.

Challenge topics:
1. Suggestions for the bi-weekly's challenge are made in a single thread which will be set up the week before.

A Colombine in Lakewood, Washington. Short exposure to gain selective focus.

Quite subtle selective focus but elements of the photo as as sharp as a pin! Tried to be more subtle as some shots can be over the top ;)

^ This is a nice shot, especially in B&W. The focus gives the image a clear subject in the foreground while not losing the background in bokeh. In some of these shots, mine included, the subject is sometimes lost in the desire to obtain "buttery bokeh".

^ Nice framing in this shot. I like the movement up through the frame presented by the swirl of the sand peak. Nice lighting with this one, too.

Note: This is not a contest. Feel free to post as many photos as you want as long as they stick to the topic and are recent ones.

Hey thanks designer Dale for your comment! I never thought much of this shot except, to enlarge it for my wall. But my wife like shot like these, she says they're artful.

Got a set of photos back from the developer today.

This one is the most selective focus of the lot. I shoot medium format and when I composed this shot my teacher asked why I had included the table in the foreground. I told him that I thought it would add atmosphere to the shot whilst also emphasising that the picture was taken in the physics classroom!

This was done in-camera by zooming during a one second exposure. This was hand held.

^ I tried to use fast exposures to freeze motion and slower ones to ghost the water flow on my last run through Mt. Rainier, but found it harder than I thought. You have a great combo of shutter speed and DOF here. The composition is nice, too. I like.

^ Yes, it does. The colors of the foreground are really striking against the motion blur of the train. Very good photo.

^ There were a few of these around during last Christmas. It's an interesting and creative use of common equipment. I like the abstract quality you have going here. Good job.

SeaWorld fireworks

I finally got around to editing my shots from our memorial day vacation. Here's one of my first attempts at Time Lapse and HDR.

I will add to the long, long portfolio of flower pics. It's been a long two weeks and for the life of me I can't remember the name of these. Anyway, this was a good bit after sundown with a 2 second exposure and the 50mm. I used my camping headlight to illuminate it from below.

Very interesting shot that tells a great story. Is this a digital medium format or film? Looks like film anyway. I've always wanted to try medium or large format. Maybe one day.
 
A fungus on a tree. Found on the trail to Carter Creek in Mt. Rainier.

When you get right in there, even f 3.5 is wide.

Wow, the light beneath this add some sort of errie feel to the picture and I had a bit of a double take!

Really like the idea behind this! The picture isn't quite straight but again the train means that your not quite sure what you're looking at! I like the idea of the foreground stationery and the background blurred!

Cheers! It's film (hence the lovely scratch marks! I don't take much care when I develop them myself!)

The old chap in the picture is my dad and I am using the 40 year old camera that he used when he was a fashion and ad photographer all that time ago!

I suppose you could say that I was following in his footsteps.

I was trying to get a nice picture of my parents and I think that I succeeded!
 
Has anyone heard from Simon? He hasn't posted anything on MR in about 5 weeks. I sent him an e-mail and he hasn't responded to that either.
 
Policar -- Would you mind editing your post to use [timg[[/img] tags. I have a 23" cinema display and your photo just barely fit my screen.
deep diver -- Last I heard he was doing some work at a University in the UK. He said he was not bringing his camera with him because of the school/research?? work he had to do.
