I just ordered my MBA and I am in the process of getting organized for when it arrives.

I have iWork 09 Family pack, used on two computers (iMac and MacBook).

Question: What will be the easiest way to install iWork on the MBA?

1. DVD in iMac, use drive sharing?
2. Just copy the applications from the iMac to a USB Flash drive?
3. Duplicate the DVD to a USB Flash drive and install?
How would I copy the DVD contents, it appears that the actual installer may be a hidden file (unless I did not look closely enough).

Same questions for MS Office (edu version I've used 2 installs, 3 allowed).

Thanks,

Andy

Drive sharing or use Disk Utility to make an image of the DVD and copy the image onto the MBA via USB stick or other means and mount the disk image on the MBA and perform the installation.

I did option 1. Worked just as fast as if the drive was local. Works great and saves buying a drive you'll only use very little. However if you ever watch DVDs you will need to buy the drive anyways.

Hi Folks,

Thanks for all the suggestions. I used Disk Utility to make an image of my iWork DVD, copied it to a flash drive, and just copied the MS Office installer to the flash drive and put several other applications on the flash drive that I use regularly so I can install them on my MBA (when it gets here... waiting, waiting, waiting).

I'll let you know how well this worked (or didn't work) when I do the installs.

Later,

Andy

Convert your installation cd's to DMG's you can open the DMG's to install, if you make a DMG from a OS disk you have to restore it to a usb or firewire drive.

I've been installing the OS from a usb drive ever since I had a rev A MacBook Air 🙂 usb media is a lot faster than spinning disks, so installing is going a lot faster.

My copy of the Family pack does not have a serial number.

I don't know for sure about the single user copy.

Andy

Just opened my brand new single user copy of iWork and cannot find a serial anywhere in the box.

It is probably on the back of a manual or some other piece of paper inside.

The "manual" is a 4 section foldout. There's more words on the 4 page quick install leaflet than there is the manual. 😀 The installation instructions don't make note of a serial# either.

Wow, that's really weird that it doesn't include a serial. How would a user that has the trial installed know they have to manually remove all the trial files to install their version of iWork? (Or why should they have to?) 🙁

Steve Jobs knows everything.

Well, I got my MBA today! Great!

Reporting back on iWork and MS Office install.

I made a DMG of the iWork DVD and copied the MS Office to a flash drive then to the MBA.

Install went perfectly!

Go for it!
