After getting my wife an 8gb 3GS recently, I have decided to get an iPhone for myself. I have never had a smartphone. I almost always carry my 30gb iPod and would like to be able go without it, so 32gb is a minimum for me. I was looking at going refurbished because I am cheap. Right now the 32gb 4 is $199 refurb and the 32gb 3GS is $79 refurb. I would like a 4, but don't really want to pay $199. How long after a new generation phone comes out do they usually wait to knock down the price on the previous generation? I could wait until June when the 5s come out if it would mean $50-100 off the refurbished 4, but if the price wouldn't likely drop until July or August on the 4 I might as well just buy now at $199. Does anyone remember how long after the 4 came out before the refurb 3GS price dropped?

It's a no brainer, June is three months away. I suggest you wait. The new iPhone will have a larger screen, better processor and will be a big improvement on iPhone 4.

Wait for sure. The new phone might be 32/64 with 32 at the 199 proce point. How much would you feel like an idiot if you bought a refurb now only to have the 5 at the same price in 3 months.

larger screen = pure speculation

More close to fact plus leaked shots while not proof positive show that iPhone 4 will more than likely have at least a 4 inch display.

Apple would be insane to release another small 3.5 inch screen device while the competitions devices have screens beginning at 4 inches.

Lets face it, while many here see no wrong in what Apple decides and does, the fact is that 3.5 display is too small weather you want to admit it or not. 3.5 inches was ground breaking in 2007 but no longer today.

Just wait. It's possible they could even bump up the storage to 32gb/64gb for the same prices, and then you'd feel like a total dope.

If you buy it now you'll be wondering what you were thinking in June. Trust me.

Agreed.

Pure speculation.

I think you need to understand that every next iPhone will be a big improvement than the previous one, or else nobody will be buying it.

Also, an A5 Dual Core processor itself means that the iPhone 5 is far better than the iPhone 4 already.

OP, I'm in the same position as you. Best thing is to wait. That way, you can assess if there's enough difference between the 2 phones and deals will be available for the 4 should you not want to go for the new model.

If you've gone long enough without a smartphone, 3 months further to wait will be nothing.

These threads need to stop these one of thread threads everyday.

I would wait for the iPhone 5 unless you had to get a phone now.

Buy the 4, enjoy it for the next several months and then pick up the 5 later, used or refurbed, or whatever.
Your wife has a 3GS, so you could pass her the 4 later if you want a 5.

Seriously. Screw waiting.
New stuff comes out everyday.

Most people in here will say wait because they have the current model and they've had it for awhile now. They're just bored of it.

I would buy the 4 and enjoy it.

Are you kidding me? I have an iPhone 3G (been almost 3 years and still not bored of it), and therefore not the current model, and i've been patiently waiting for iPhone 5 ever since i skipped the iPhone 4 upgrade.

The iPhone 4 is great but June is only a few months away. If you are not willing to buy new just pick up a iPhone 4 now since no one knows when the iPhone 5 will show up refurbished.

Apple is not going to use the same design as the 4. Too much "history."
Depends how arrogant Apple wants to be about it. The 4 sold like crazy, so they can keep the same design and it will still sell like crazy.

If it doesn't have a larger screen, though, it won't sell near as much. Won't be that much of a reason to upgrade. Maybe just for the folks who don't have a 4 yet...

Life's too short ...

... to keep waiting on the next big thing. I was on the fence, and finally came to my senses and bought the Verizon iPhone 4. I couldn't be happier, and can't put it down.
I'm glad I didn't wait.
