first off i want to say i already tried using MROOGLE and couldn't find much.

so is it possible yet to run 8gb of ram in the late 2009 unibody macbook?

i have 4gb now. but when im using reason 5, safari open, itunes open, possibly a pages, maybe mail etc etc. my 4gb is pretty much all taken up. so i was hoping 8gb was stable on my mac.

8gb Upgrade for Late Model Macbook

I recently bought 8 gb of RAM and installed. Seemed to work ok then I got intermittent messages telling me, "You need restart your computer immmediately...." When I looked up this issue, the consensus was the RAM itself was etiher bad or imcompatible. So I can either stick with the 4 gb that Apple says is my maximum or get 8gb from a different supplier. For those of you that upgraded.....who do you recommend to purchase the 8gb from? thanks

Memory -"CORSAIR 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Laptop Memory Model CM3X8GSDKIT1066 G" was in used. I really like them., because of low latency cas 7 and it is a corsair - They have the high quality and ultra high performance products.

We're talking about late 2009 white (plastic) unibody macbook right?

I used Crucial's RAM app and it said max ram is 4GB, so I don't know what to buy...

Thanks in advance!

Here is a quote from MacTracker on the Ram "issue", hope it sheds some light.
Question to Mactracker:
Why do you say you can put more memory in some machines than Apple does?
Answer:
Apple sets their maximum memory configuration based on the memory modules available at the time of the product's release. Apple does not typically revise this limit as compatible higher density modules become available after the release date. This is a safe policy to follow but it inevitably causes confusion when memory vendors and dealers (and Mactracker) state that a computer will hold more memory than Apple says it will.

So the MacBook 7,1 also takes 8gb? I upgraded mine to 4gb because that's what crucial's memory program told me it would take. Now I feel kinda bummed out if it will take 8gb and run fine.

I know this thread is kinda old but doing my "homework" I'm getting mixed feedback.

I currently have 2GB installed on my Late 2009 Unibody (White) MacBook. I was going to upgrade to 4GB of RAM since I installed Lion, but I'm curious if I could goto 8GB. If I'm going to upgrade might as well go the max I can.

I've seen some posts saying it worked, some saying just do 4GB. Can anyone confirm that this model will handle 8GB without any negative side effects?

*Apple officially supports a maximum of 4 GB of RAM, but third-parties have confirmed that it actually supports 8 GB of RAM.

There are MAC sites selling 4GB+4GB memory upgrade kits (see below) so it should be fine. I just got 4GB as I've read on this forum that it also works on 6GB, that way I don't have to discard my memory to buy an expensive one.

Some links to help you upgrade the RAM on the MB:

Hope this helps.

Do you own a late 2009 model, macbook 6,1?
Can you report back how well the 8gb upgrade works?
Thx =)

Yes I do
Ok, I will...

I ended up buying from Newegg instead of Amazon and getting Corsair instead of Kingston...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233179

Amazon's price went up :)

I'll be running a few benchmarking programs to see the overall improvement.

Edit: Ran GeekBench and got a score of 3558...

That's the model I have and I bought this kit http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001UNI80A on the 2nd. It's running perfectly stable and I think it was the same price or near enough to 4gb not to bother going any less than 8. Whether it's Lion or the new Safari, I don't know but I'm sure glad I didn't go less than 8gb given the exorbitant memory usage since I updated.

Also, I bought it when it was $42 dollars with a rebate but now invisiblehand is showing it at newegg for $45

I wish I would have seen that first... I spent 10 dollars more :(

Just bought 8gb from Amazon (Kingston).

Let's see if it works on MB unibody late 2009.

I have always used Kingston in all my computers and it's good.

Which Is Better?

Hey there guys,
I currently have a 2009 (Late) Macbook White Unibody, running Snow Leopard. I was going to upgrade my RAM, and came across a small question...

Which RAM stick should I use... I am wondering which one is better of the two...

http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Modules-1066MHz-KTA-MB1066K2-8G/dp/B001PS9UKW

http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-204-p...ectronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1338629416&sr=1-1-fkmr0

Just on a side note: Will both of these work on my Macbook?
In system profiler my current Mac is saying, that the Ram it is using - is 1067 MHz and the ones offered on amazon (as far as I am aware) are only 1066 MHz (does this mean they are better) and compatible or not?

Please & Thank You In Advanced Guys,

Regards,
Milt. :)
