I've only noticed this lately, but recently I've been getting pop-up windows while surfing using Safari with the "Block Pop-Ups" option checked. I always assumed it was just a matter of time before web developers came out with some code that would get around this but what exactly is happening here?

There has been several reports of this the last couple of months... Pithelmet seems to help... so does editing your hosts file...

What really helps is to use Firefox... I have yet to get any pop-up or pop-under... satisfied FF user since last November... ;)

I've seen popups in both Firefox and Safari recently within the past month or so. I bet that this is the last we will ever see the internet without at least some popups  .

I've asked for this several times: Show me a site where Firefox displays a pop-up/-under... I've tried all the sites Safari users have complained about but NONE has done more than making Firefox give me a message that it has prevented a pop-up from opening...

Go to AppleInsider. Click on the Forums tab. You won't always get a block-skirting pop-up, but the site has been a prime testing ground for them.

Tried for over an hour now, and hasn't gotten any pop-ups or -unders... or even a message that one has been blocked...
As I told you, they are not persistent. However, they are there.

Nope... doesn't get by my Firefox (and didn't a couple of weeks ago when someone else suggested it, either (Edit: drudge two weeks ago)).

Hm. Who knows. I get the pop-up blocked message and a pop-up. Kind of strange. I guess user experience may vary with both Safari and FF. Eh.

Which version are you running??

Here's what I've got (and still getting popups):

I'm running 1.0.2, and I'm pretty much in the same boat as Mitt....well, maybe I have seen one pop-under in the last six months. I think Adblock might have something to do with it -- if pop-unders are being spawned in Flash code, then blocking the flash eliminates them. It could be that some really general filter in our adblock list is getting these. But that seems sketchy since I never saw them the first time, in order to block them....

1.0.2... directly from mozilla.org...

Thanks . . . I'll try upgrading and see if that fixes the browsing experience.
