Selling MBP need your advice

I'm going to be selling my macbook pro soon. what are the steps to ensure none of my data is on the computer.

I was tihnking of backing everything up to time machine.
then load snow leopard and iLfe back on to the computer
from there update
then sell

did I miss anything?

Also where are the best place to advertise.

How much is my mac worth?

Macbook pro 13" (2010)
2.66 intel core 2 duo
4gb DDR3 RAM
Nvidia GeForce 320m 256mb graphics
500gb SATA hard drive
Apple Care (about 20 months left)

When I get a new computer, could I restore from my time machine backup to the new mac?
 
It's probably worth $700-750.

2.3 Ghz i5s are going for $800-900 and are substantially faster, which is driving down the price for Core 2 Duos. It also depends on if you have the box and restore discs, how much warranty is left (if any), etc.

I have the restore disc but I no longer have the box. Warranty about 20 months left.

You have Applecare on it. I would list it at $1,000, people will try to haggle with you.If you list for $800 you will be offered $650 or $700 at the max.

The computer was at least $1200 last year(tho it looks like the mid range one not the cheapest one) and you have applecare that's another $180. You can sweeten the deal by leaving your music on it. That is how I usually get so much for the ones I sell on craigslist. I do this every year and usually break even on a new one but I never buy apple care because I get a new one before the warranty expires. Just be very good at discribing the computer and take nice pictures.

Thanks for the advice. Do you think I could price it at more then 1000$ and get about 1000$ for it?

Depends where you live. I highly doubt you'll get $1000 for it considering many places are selling the new one for $1000-1100 because of X-mas specials. The good news is many dumb people out there that might be willing to give you that much.

You possibly can, but I think you'd do better if you had more to offer in the deal such as 8GB of RAM and possibly a larger HD.

I often flip computers on craigslist. Will buy a Mac low, max out the ram and throw in a 1TB hard drive. People love that. At least around my location.

it seems silly to upgrade my computer now that I want to sell it.
