Macpro 2008 3,1 freezing randomly since Mavericks, what do I look for?

So this machine has always been as steady as I could have hoped for easily a 100 day plus workhorse of a machine, mavericks has been out for a while so any issues should have been starting to develop trends by now right?

Now my misfortune could be a coincidence... But when I put my old OS disk back in, It goes right back to normal in terms of stability...
This is on a completely clean instal of Mavericks, just to be sure everything was as OK as i could make it.

I only act the squeaky wheel because it happened 3 times this week :(

What do I start looking for to see if I can find a solution to the issue?

Mavericks seems very slow to react on this machine for desktop activities, where it was crisp and fluid on the old OS...

Any tips, derisive comments, or help I could Illicit ?

The only difference is a appricorn card running a Samsung 840 EVO.

The current OS config is a Fusion 840EVO+4TB drive

The last OS config was a fusion kingston+4TB drive running both drives on native SATA ports.
