There are two, with the latter, brand new, free(!) and, if you have a non-Phone 5s device, highly recommended hacks: “Burst mode” and “Slo-mo Mod”. I've very thoroughly tested and benchmarked both of them on my 7.0.4 iPhone 5.

“Burst mode”

Burst%20mode%20hack%20in%20Cydia.jpeg

“Burst mode” enables “keep the shutter icon depressed for action shooting” functionality to iOS5/6 and speeds up still shooting under iOS5/6/7.

My burst photo shooting mode benchmarks on the iPhone 5, using my 60 fps test suite, under exactly the same circumstances, measuring one minute of continuous shooting:

Default, stock Camera app, no hacks: 2.5fps
Burst mode-hacked stock Camera app: 3.32fps; that is, definitely higher than by default
Latest SnappyCam app: 5.43 fps; the first 15 frames being 20 fps (but, after that, after the memory filled in, slowing down)

All in all, it's worth installing as it does offer a slightly higher framerate, particularly if you don't have SnappyCam.

“Slo-mo Mod”

Slo-mo%20Mod%20in%20Cydia%20-%201.jpeg

Slo-mo%20Mod%20in%20Cydia%20-%202.jpeg

This hack is iOS7-only and adds the “Slo-mo” menu item to the stock Camera app:

and also the "rubber" in the stock Photos app:

The Slo-mo Mod video hack (has nothing to do with the stills-only “Burst Mode” introduced above) works as expected. Everything I've explained in my previous 60p shooting-related articles (for example, the one at https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1602171/ ), including the problems (quarter-resolution 360p effective resolution) applies to it. At least you can “edit” your videos in the Photos app and can shoot 60p on some non-5s phones and iPads like the 5c, the 5 and the two iPad minis / iPad 4. There's no love for the 4S (also see my today's report on its 60p hackability at https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/18664546/ )

Note: because of the slower hardware, you can only use 60p recording on the 5c, the 5 and the two iPad minis. If you try setting for example 61 fps recording, the Camera app immediately crashes upon starting.

The recording is completely independent of my video camera enhancer tweak's (see https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1538193/ ) current state - the two tweaks can happily co-exist. That is, you can keep your camera at the wide setting all the time (if you want), it won't have any effect on the slo-mo video recording.

All in all,

both hacks are highly recommended if you have an non-iPhone 5s.

UPDATE (02/23/2014): two major updates:
- iPhone 4 benchmarks: https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/18795155/

- 1.1-13 benchmarks: https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/18805767/

Just a note that the Burst Mode tweak has been out for quite a while. Released shortly after iOS 7. I've had it installed on my iPhone 5, iOS 6.1 for some time now. Good tweak.

I restored my iPhone 5 to iOS 7.0.4 and Jailbreak just because I saw this article :D

I have an iPhone 5 and the videos look pretty good. There is an issue when trying to message the videos, though. I've found e-mail is the only way to do it. And they don't always import with the slow motion, like into iMovie it is just a regular speed video.

Has anyone else experienced this?

The same applies to these videos as to those of 5s - if you edit them in Photos, the export won't be reencoded. That is, the from-to positions will just be ignored.

It must be manually reencoded using, say, iMovie. See for example http://lifehacker.com/transfer-iphone-5s-slow-motion-videos-to-your-computer-1440194391

Just tried them on my Iphone4. Wouldn't suggest the slo-mo Mod as it makes the camera app ver laggy. But great tweak, can't wait to test on my iPad Air

So you have to edit it from the camera app when you first record it to keep the slowmo properties?

Nope, edit it in iMovie, right on the iPhone, should you want to mail / distribute it already slowed-down.

Will very thoroughly report on both apps running on my iPhone 4 in a few days (now, I'm very busy on other projects, incl. my latest call recorder configurer / disguiser.)

But when someone with a 5S sends me an iMessage with a slow motion video, it comes through with the slow motion.

Using my JB iP5 I can't send the slow motion videos via iMessage (haven't tried via text message). It comes through as a regular video.

But you can already add a slo-mo effect in imovie w/o the jailbreak tweak. Like the other poster said Iphone 5s users can send videos that have the effect w/o imovie and w/o jailbreak.

You cant shoot physically 60p video in the stock Camera app of anything but the 5s. It's only available via 3rd party apps. This is one of the points of this hack.

Email compresses the video, you can also air drop it to someone then have them send it back. You'll get the full quality video in slow motion in your camera roll, ready to post to Facebook, Instagram etc. Pain in the rear but it works

Guys, the absolutely essential Camera app tweaker CameraTweak 7 is out!! And it's fully compatible with the two tweaks I've reviewed in this thread

I've posted a length report on it co-working with the two tweaks at https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/18786836/ - hope you'll find my writeup useful.

On my iPhone 5 I get bursts between 3.3-3.5 FPS with the "Burst Mode" tweak at full resolution (8Mpx). Any chance you'd be willing to test the Burst Mode rate with this new "CameraTweak" at some lower resolutions? I'd like to get some benchmarks for something in the 3-5Mpx range. Fingers crossed for something close to 10 FPS! :D Thanks!

On the iPhone 5 (running 7.0.4), Burst Mode tweak, with default settings, delivers significantly higher framerates (almost 6 fps) in 640*480 mode than the default setting. Actually, the default setting is even slower than full-resolution shooting. (Strange, but true...)

Unfortunately, it still can't come close to the speed of the latest version of SnappyCam delivering steady 60 fps (tested over a minute, without rebooting the device first to max RAM memory).

The figures:

Burst Mode tweak not active: 2.14 fps
Burst Mode tweak active: 5.91
SnappyCam: truly 60 fps

New version (1.1-13) of Burst Mode released; in the screenshot below, I've annotated the most important, new features I'll further elaborate on:

burst-news.jpeg

These two new features must be manually enabled in Settings (see annotation):

burst-newsettings.jpeg

How do they fare, you ask? Well, I've runs some very serious, controlled framerate tests on my 7.0.4 iPhone 5. The results clearly show that:

- enabling faster code didn't result in any kind of faster framerate. On the contrary: it even decreased a little bit (about 2%)

- disabling animation, however, seems to have sped up storing the images a bit; by about 2%.

All in all, if you have an iPhone 5, disable animation but don't enable faster code for the best performance.

The new version shoots burst photos about 40% faster than the stock Camera app and is, consequently, as with the previous versions, highly recommended for (at least) iPhone 5 users. Note that, on the iPhone 4, the older version didn't increase the framerate at all (see https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/18795155/ ). I'll post an updated benchmark result on the new version's behavior on the device.

Note: the tweak, as opposed to the previous version, saves images as proper “burst” bundles. This means they aren't directly accessible via, say, the stock “Image Capture” OS X app when you connect your phone to your desktop. You need to select the ones you want to export first. This is how these burst bundles now look like on the camera roll:

burst-in-camera.jpeg

And this is the button (I've annotated it) you need to press to get to the favorite picker mode:

burst-choosefavs-1.jpeg

The latter looks like this:

I've tested the new version on the iPhone 4 running 7.0.6 (at full resolution). The results: as before, Burst Mode is not recommended, unless you want to save burst bundles to the Camera Roll and not individual images (as would do the stock Camera app). In no way could it shoot faster than the stock client – with animation disabled, the two delivered approximately the same framerate.

As on the iPhone 5, do NOT use the new “Faster code” option – it'll cause a 8% performance decrease! Unfortunately, disabling animation doesn't have much measurable improvement on the framerate (about 1%).

I've just posted a lengthy benchmark of the iPad 3 comparing

- iOS8 beta 1, with the default camera app
- iOS8 beta 1, SnappyCam
- iOS7.1 beta 3, with the default camera app
- iOS7.1 beta 3, with the recently-released, current (1.1-15) "Burst mode" tweak

Off topic but how's iOS 8? With a ton of Cydia tweaks incompatible this early, poor Menn.
