Podcast App Recommendations

Hello,

I would like to use a third-party podcast app, but I need to know if it will work well with my car's stereo. I have iCatcher, but it has an annoying problem. So, I launch iCatcher and cue the podcast. Then I plug the iPhone using the Lightning cable to the USB port of the car. But, the podcast does not play. Instead, the stereo plays the very first song in my iTunes library. Even if I have iCatcher open when I plug it in, I have to press play in the app.

With the Apple Podcasts app, the stereo plays the podcast after you plugging it in, as you would expect. This is a 2014 car.

So, if someone could recommend another podcast app that "just works" with a car stereo, then I'll try it. Thanks.
 
Personally, I have zero problems with the Apple Podcast app and use it daily. The only other podcast app that I have liked has been Stitcher, which does a great job with streaming and keeping your place and that stuff. It was my go-to app on my Android phones, and I would still be using it today if the Podcast app weren't working fine for me.
 
No third party app will solve the original posters problem.

Their car stereo is specifically telling the phone to "play" using the old iPod protocol which is directed at the built in iPod app.

Only Apples Podcasts app can put things into the iPod library.

To an extent. My radio does the same thing, it takes seconds to start the app and hit play of what you want. Mine always starts iTunes but I never use it. Whether it be Spotify or Downcast it only takes a very small amount of time to start what you want.
 
I use Instacast because it is simple, intuitive, beautiful, and a decent price ($1.99).
