Sprint introduces $50 unlimited plan for 6/6 Plus owners (iPhone for life program)

I have no problems with Sprin. LTE is lightning fast here. I already have unlimited everything, but this is even cheaper. I'm not due an upgrade until 12/1, but if I can save money AND get new phones for us now, I'm on board!

You can't shine a turd. Just make sure you do your research before going with Sprint. America's newest network is still America's crappiest network for many people who have and are using them!

If anybody finds out, curious what the iPhone 6+ will cost to finance, because this seems like 4.7 pricing.

It is, so just add $8.33 per month for each hundred dollars more your version is:

6/16: $20
6/64: $28.33
6/128: $36.66

6+/16: $28.33
6+/64: $36.66
6+/128: $44.99

My honest Sprint evaluation:

When I have LTE - It loads very quick.

When I have 3G - It loads at 3G speed, which most people think it incredibly slow as they are used to 4G/LTE

I have had sprint for over 10 years and I do not complain myself. I live in an area where their map shows "Fair" coverage. (Out of No Covereage/Poor/Fair/Good)

I have never had the poor call quality issue.

Now a little bit more about me.
I live in South Eastern VA.
I do not need a website to load in .31 seconds, waiting 5 seconds is okay for me.
I mostly text/check e-mail/ make phone calls.
I drive a car that already has a navigation system equipped.

If you need every webpage to load in .31 or less seconds then sprint may not be right for you. But in comparison, for example, if you have Verizon because of quality then don't complain about spending $100 more for a 64gb/5.5 phone cause you are already spending a couple hundred more per year for service.

Lastly, at home, work, startbucks, ihop, and paneras - I am on wifi. I do not watch movies/videos while driving down the interstate to/from work.

So it works fine for me but may not be for everyone.

Is it $8.33 or $4.16? It is a two year plan not 1 year. I think you divided $100 by 12.

Or is that information from their website, I honestly did not check.

Hell....I can't believe Verizon is actually offering the best deal for individuals now. They have always been the most expensive in the past. $60 for unlimited talk and text w/ 2 gb of data.

Unlimited data on Sprint doesn't mean much if it's so slow you can't use it.

Where exactly are you seeing this? I'm checking out Verizon's plans right now and don't see $60/mo for unlimited talk and 2GB data. I would certainly leave Sprint for that.

Full details. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2468251,00.asp

"The iPhone for Life plan will work both with the $50 iPhone plan and with Sprint's family plans, which currently run at $100 per month for up to 10 lines at 20GB of shared data, with that increasing by $15 per line after 2015. Adding an iPhone 6 will cost $20, $25, or $30 a month per line, depending on the capacity; an iPhone 6 Plus will cost $5 more per month."

Just a word here. I've been on WiFi for the last two years only to keep myself sane. I pay over $200 a month to Sprint. I consider it reasonable that I should get LTE in my home, my workplace and at my local Starbucks. I am not streaming video at home or any place, nor am I using my service as my ISP or my iPhone as my home router. I pick my phone up on occasion from the couch and expect to be able to load Facebook, read an email or send a text.

I shouldn't have to do any of that over WiFi that I already pay Cox Communication over $200 a month for already. Why do I have to pay Sprint to use WiFi I am already paying someone else for?

Lastly, I have a 10 minute ride to work. It starts on crappy LTE, drops to crappy 3G, picks up a decent LTE tower in the middle and then hands off to a crappy LTE tower at the end. Reverse the process for coming home. At any given point I can expect Pandora, SOMA FM or Google Play to drop out entirely. Which means I have to pull over and start the stream again (if I can). All of this assumes that I can get Google Play or any of the other apps to even START a stream in my driveway. Because LTE is so damn slow the apps often time out.

So, while coverage may be "fair" or even "good" in other places it sure is not in any of the three places I frequent. And I do NOT live in the boonies! I live in Phoenix, AZ!

You don't need much bandwith to stream music. You can do it with less than 1mb down. But Sprint can't even give me that! And it really hasn't gotten a lot better since September 2012 either.

I'm glad it's good in your area, but for what and how and where I use it, it's just not.

----------

Is this true? I've been lurking S4GRU, and no one seems to mention it ;)
As far as I know it is. It was an offhand comment I caught in one of the many, many threads and posts there. The comment was made in passing as an aside to the topic and the following posts didn't quote it. It seemed to me that it was a common acknowledgement of an issue.

I made some efforts to find it, but like everything over there, the gems are buried deep and you have to be on it to see it.

I'm glad it's good in your area, but for what and how and where I use it, it's just not.

So let me take this point by point. For starters I believe you have a very well based argument. Your experience is very different than mine.

$200 a month? I would assume you are 4+ people on a family plan? If not then I blame you for having such a ridiculously large bill.

Second you are not paying Sprint for wifi. You can cancel your contract and still use the iPhone on wifi, you are paying Cox for wifi. Now why you would be at home and not use wifi is beyond me as it is better for your battery and after the initial set-up will automatically link to it every time you walk in the door.

A ten minute drive is three songs. Not worth pulling over for in my opinion. Also I play music directly off my phone as an iPod. It comes through better and has no commercials. Therefore I cannot necessarily go for or against this point.

So based on your experience/usage/and area I would leave Sprint immediately. The great news to anyone who is ending a 2 year contract is that Sprint allows you to break contract within the first 30 days for free. Since they are cheaper you can find out how they perform in your area and leave them if it is poor performance. Then when returning to another provider you are a "new customer" and generally get an even better deal than when you would have re-upped your contract anyways.

I am in no way affiliated with Sprint, but I am a Happy 10 year customer. So I will point a few things out.

The first thing is this - Sprint will either work great for you or it won't but there is no cost in trying.

Second, Sprint has won awards and accolades recently for improvements to their service/network/customer service. While it still has a long way to go I am happy to say that from my experience they are working on it.

Lastly, I went on a drive from southeastern VA to Breezewood PA. During this drive my "co-pilot" had a black out period that lasted for nearly 4 hours, he has Verizon. He used my phone to call and check if their service was down only to find out that they do not service the area we were in. Which was pretty shocking to even myself.

Verizon is definitely #1 for network - But you pay for it.
Sprint is #1 for low cost - But the network needs improvement.
ATT is the middle ground.
T-Mobile is just… there I would say a hybrid Sprint/ATT.

This is all my experience / opinion.

Only the $30/month phone option lets you keep it. Not a good deal at all. You're paying $720 for the phone alone after 2 years.

How bad is Sprint's service? I had to let a friend on Sprint tether from my AT&T service just so he could download an app. Otherwise it would have took about 15min.

No, just two people. You can blame me if you like, but you may want to look at the breakdown of my bill.

Everything Data 1500 Family (you cannot get this plan anymore). - $110 first line
2nd Line - $19.99 (same price up to five lines)
Premium Data Fee (an old Sprint fee for smartphones I have to pay because I am on an old plan) - 2x $10 = $20
Total Equipment Protection (Loss/Damage/Theft) - 2x $11 = $22
2GB Hotspot - $19.99

Add in taxes and fees and that comes to around $211 per month. We have a free Airave for a third line from Retentions as well.

For two people we did not shift to the All In or MyWay plans because it was more expensive for less lines. You can blame me for not shifting to Framily if you want, but I'm lazy and didn't feel like going through the effort of finding people.

As to the new Family share plan, there's no unlimited. I would have switched to it if it were so. Instead, we will be shifting to two individual $60 plans for the unlimited probably this weekend. I'm out of contract on the 13th. My wife still has another year to go, but as one line (mine) will be out of contract we can switch. Paying an additional $25 because my wife is in contract isn't a big deal to me because it's still less than what I am paying now.

True, I could use my iPhone on WiFi. I have a Google Voice number and I did that with my old 3GS for a year as my secondary phone. My wife would not be happy and I would have to find places with WiFi, but yeah, it could be done.

And yes, I am paying Cox for my WiFi. In fact, I could put my phone in airplane mode and use WiFi only and you know what? Sprint would send me a bill for $211 still. So, I'd rather use the service I am paying for. 3G/LTE from Sprint. It shouldn't matter where I am at or if WiFi is available to me or not. I'm paying Sprint for cellular data. At home, I plug my phone in so I don't need to worry about battery and yes, my phone is on my home network. I use WiFi at home when I'm going to transfer large amounts of data to or from my phone.

Just a couple more related comments on this. We ditched landlines for our cell phones years ago. So, we had 3G service with Sprint on our old Sanyo Katanas for two years, 3.5 years on HTC Touch Pros and now two years with the iPhone. It's only been since the iPhone that I've actually had to use WiFi at home to get something done. We don't abuse data. The most I've ever used is a little over 10GB a month and that was on a 3G phone, not my iPhone. For the last several months to a year we've done less than 500mb of data in a month solely because we are on WiFi most of the time.My wife is ALWAYS on WiFi at home, one because it's the only way to stop the Sprint network from double-texting her phone off the Airave and two because I don't want to hear how bad the Sprint network is and how she can't do anything.

In any case, my opinion is that I am paying Sprint for cellular data within their coverage area. I should get that data within their coverage area at a reasonable speed. I'm not asking for blazing, but sub-750kbps is not reasonable. Neither are pings north of 500ms. Location is irrelevant.

A ten minute drive is three songs. Not worth pulling over for in my opinion
I agree. Which makes this all the more frustrating. The network can't handle two or three songs.

Also I play music directly off my phone as an iPod. It comes through better and has no commercials. Therefore I cannot necessarily go for or against this point.
I have my entire iTunes library in Google Play. I use Google's music app to stream it to my phone. 10+ GBs of data that I don't have to have on my iPhone. But the network often fails me. I have an iPod and I use that too, usually when I have a longer drive and do not want to be frustrated by losing the stream.

Where Sprint is good it works. But so far, the areas I am in do not have good signal or coverage. I know where there ARE areas with good signal and coverage, but I'm not in those areas as frequently as I am the other. Lastly, it's not like I am taking back streets or little known shortcuts. I drive on major streets around here that see quite a bit of traffic. Apparently AT&T thinks these are major streets too because they just stuck a brand new tower up on one of those streets.

So based on your experience/usage/and area I would leave Sprint immediately.
I'm going to, when I get my tax refund in the new year. I gave Sprint two years with the iPhone 5 and so far haven't seen much.

I don't generally have any disagreement with you on any of that. I will just say that I've not ever experienced the benefits of any customer service improvement. It's always been a fight with Sprint, interspersed with the occasional good CSR here and there.

For the record, since you mentioned your own length of time with Sprint, we've been Sprint customers since 1999. Sprint was our first and has been our only carrier for the last 15 years. It's only in 2012 that things started going bad. I've never had issues with voice quality and Sprint has always been good with that. But data speeds are hit and miss where I'm at and that's what is going to have us leave within the next six months.

I have been on Straight Talk for over 2 years now, but I will be switching to this Verizon plan when I preorder the new 6. The cost over 2 years will be the same, but with a smaller initial outlay.

6+/128: $44.99

Considering I want the 64GB 6+ this plan will cost me $87 before taxes and surcharges (So basically $100 a month). For Sprint, that is a BIG no-go for me.

How bad is Sprint's service? I had to let a friend on Sprint tether from my AT&T service just so he could download an app. Otherwise it would have took about 15min.
Where Network Vision is largely completed it's right up there with AT&T and Verizon as far as coverage goes, I have LTE everywhere I go now including inside buildings. Average speeds for me are around 10-12Mbps, when I am on B41 LTE I can average over 70Mbps. T-Mobile can't even come close and they never will.

Framily works with 2 people 20GB data for $100 a month, does it not? I am not 100% sure but I just checked the website and it appears it does. If you are truly using greater than 10GB of data each than both verizon and AT&T would be stupid expensive for you... Add Hotspot and Equiptment protection puts you at $144 a month + taxes / fees and lowers your bill by nearly $850 a yearish.

It just seems to be smarter to use Wifi at home. It is better for the longevity of a recharchable battery by reducing the total cycles on the battery..

Just a couple more related comments on this. We ditched landlines for our cell phones years ago. I agree 100% that you should get what is promised. If your area has "fair" coverage you should get fair signal. If you are not getting this I would definitely switch carriers and launch a complaint with Sprint.

I agree. Which makes this all the more frustrating. The network can't handle two or three songs. Agreed this is pathetic. I will admit there are a few times when loading a video takes too long and I just decide to watch it later.

When will Apple make it possible to stream from an Itunes cloud. This could be very lucrative for them.

Since you mentioned that I will mention one thing about Sprint that really got me mad... They introduced the gold customer plan where if you had been a customer for 10+ years you could up your phone every year... Then they retracted the plan a few months later.

This is a good example of why Sprint is not the best option for some. Anyone who is reading this thread should take Sprints coverage in their area into consideration. It's well worth the savings if your area is covered, but if it is not the hassel and stress outweigh any cost savings.

Considering I want the 64GB 6+ this plan will cost me $87 before taxes and surcharges (So basically $100 a month). For Sprint, that is a BIG no-go for me.

I think this plan is largely aimed at people getting the 16GB phone and using cloud services to stream their music / photos. Ironically this requires a great network.

As the guy two comments above me posted - Sprints LTE is just as fast as anyone elses, it just isn't in as wide of a net as everyone elses..

Where Network Vision is largely completed it's right up there with AT&T and Verizon as far as coverage goes, I have LTE everywhere I go now including inside buildings. Average speeds for me are around 10-12Mbps, when I am on B41 LTE I can average over 70Mbps.
Average over 70mbps? I'd LOVE for you to show us some proof of that :p

T-Mobile can't even come close and they never will.

And they have... Their wideband LTE (and VZW's XLTE) is just as fast as Sparky. As a matter of fact, I've had Sparky speeds 3 years ago.

Only the $30/month phone option lets you keep it. Not a good deal at all. You're paying $720 for the phone alone after 2 years.

Im not trying to disprove you because I'm still unsure of what plan to go on and I suck at math. But there are a few reasons why the $20/mo "lease" actually makes sense.

1) No sales tax
For devices costing $600-800 then thats a solid $50 per handset you save. (Which they'll get back right away with these ridiculous "Activation Fees". Those really shouldn't exist anymore...)

2) Sprint Resale Value Sucks
Sprint handsets tend to resell for much less than a GSM one. Sure, we can unlock some of them now but even still, the "Sprint Stigma" is there and most people don't trust it enough to pay as much as they would an unlocked ATT iPhone.

3) Guaranteed For Life
This worries me. "Guaranteed for Life" seems to indicate that these people may get first dibs on new handsets. So in 2016 when the iPhone 7 comes out then are they going to get to line jump us? If so, then its better to be in the horde than out of it.

Right now i'm on a Framily plan. $45/mo, Unlimited everything, Annual upgrades. Buying an iPhone 6 Plus will cost me $30/mo but its 0% and at least I get the option next year to trade it in or buy it out so I like my plan. I'm just thinking of a backup in case my "Framily" all bails on me and I no longer qualify for these rates.

its a good deal if sprint has good speeds where you live.
I have Sprint and here in NYC Spark is live so speeds are around 30mb/s.

I'm interested in this iPhone for Life plan, but I'm confused about the ETF (Early Termination Fee) reimbursement.

If you read the fine print here: http://www.sprint.com/landings/iphone/, it seems to indicate the other plans are eligible for the $350/line reimbursement, but not iPhone for Life plan.

Thoughts?

Two-phone household thinking of switching to Sprint, and the ETF reimbursement is the only way it's doable.

Thinking of leaving verizon. Have unlimited data, 900 minutes/450 text. Paying around $100 a month. No contract, bought my iphone 5 32gb full price. But to get a new iphone, I either have to buy full price the 6 64GB, or maybe go sprint for better monthly price. I live in Chicago (downtown) and from what I've read, spark is live and coverage is great. I'm also a pilot, so at a lot of airports. I assume the coverage would be great in major cities/airports also.

So I am debating on going sprint also

Those looking at VZW. Very price for the limited data you get. Data is where it is at these days, they know it, and inflate the prices. 2GB plan at VZW? Laugh, I used 7GB last month alone on the road.

Well, Sprint is in the news now for the best coverage at O'Hare. But your mileage may vary at other airports. My understanding is that nothing at all has been upgraded at Sky Harbor in Phoenix and right now we sit at around 59% completion of Network Vision for the PHX market.

Sprint has a policy of never activating phones it did not sell or that were never intended to be used on their network. I have heard a report of one person getting a Verizon iPhone activated on Sprint, but IDK. May want to check it out.

That said, Sprint's frequencies are 1900mhz, 2.5Ghz and 800mhz. I don't believe the Verizon iPhone 5 series operates on the same LTE bands. So, even if you manage to get it activated it may not work for LTE.

Lastly, Chicago was one of the first Sprint markets to get upgraded with Network Vision. Sprint used it as a test market to polish the rollout plans for all their other markets. All the pain of getting the old Samsung equipment and the new network equipment to work together has been alleviated and Chicago is now one of the more mature markets Sprint has. You shouldn't have any real problems there if you have a phone that can use Sprint's frequencies.

Oh yeah, the iPhone 6 and 6+ are the only iPhones that can take advantage of Spark. The 5c and 5s can handle 1900mhz and 800mhz, but not 2.5 Ghz and the iPhone 5 can only handle 1900mhz for LTE and 800mhz for voice.

The iPhone 6 and 6+ will not do VoLTE as Sprint has not launched anything for that yet.
