Gave my brother my old iPhone 5 on verizon, he put in his AT&T sim. Works fine, other than the battery suddenly dropping about twice as fast. I checked his battery usage in settings, just shows the apps he's been using. It's dying at a rate of about 1% per minute without using it. Wasn't doing this before I gave it to him. Would using the phone on a different carrier than originally set up for matter?

Well it depends on signal quality, if att has worst signal quality than Verizon phone will spend more time searching for signal. I guess tmobile has best signal and best battery life.

The Verizon iPhone 5 can't do LTE on AT&T so be sure that LTE is disabled in cellular settings.
