Apple today launched a new Tumblr page highlighting the touchstones of pop culture across 2014. Mirroring the album art layout of iTunes itself, the company's Tumblr site lists the best music, movies, television, and books of the past year by showcasing various images and GIFs related to the content.

As with any Tumblr blog, users can like a post, share the content on Facebook and Twitter, and reblog it to their own tumblr page. A "See All" button allows users to delve even further into each category, highlighting a more extensive list for each of the four main mediums beyond the central hub.

The Best of 2014 blog shows off a variety of different pop culture milestones from the past year. Guardians of the Galaxy, The LEGO Movie, Fargo, Gone Girl, and artists like Nicki Minaj and Charli XCX all get their own mention on the page.

Apple has seen a bit of a resurgence on social media recently, with the company previously launching a Tumblr blog for the iPhone 5c back in March, and Tim Cook himself joining Twitter in September of 2013. As noted by 9to5Mac, Apple also started an Instagram account for iTunes just two weeks ago.

Apple's expanded social media presence comes four months after the company picked up Musa Tariq, Nike's former senior director of social media. Before working at Nike, Tariq worked closely with Apple's head of retail Angela Ahrendts at Burberry, helping with the brand's global expansion, and he may also be behind Apple's recent social media push.

I remember when there were exciting rumors regarding new iPhones, Mac Pros, iMacs, etc. Le sigh...

It's a bit slow because of the holidays. Wait till January rolls around, you'll be sick of Apple Watch and iPhone 6s rumors before long!

iTunes "Best of Music" promos always seem to be targeting teenie pop music.

When are they going to get smart about the music I listen to (they have that data) and only display relevant albums to me? I could care less about Niki Manag, Taylor Swift and the like.

Those who are upset with this probably don't even use Tumblr.

I don't either these days, but I understand that companies have to go where everyone else is hanging out.

There's always a lot of bias with best of lists, don't know why people keep complaining.

Stupid

This is the dumbest thing I've seen today. When you go to the Tumbler site there are no links to the items listed. So in the books. There aren't any titles on two of them and the book "I'll give you the sun" actually looks like it's titled "We wish with our hands, that's what we do as artists.

I guess it's par for the horrible iTunes UI course.

Maybe instead of launching a new iTunes Tumblr they should launch a new iTunes that doesn't suck.

Well, Tumblr is belong to Yahoo. Firefox change default search engine to Yahoo too. And I love Tumblr too, it's seem better than Wordpress.

iTunes? Is that the application we used in the old days when we had music locally?

I wonder if iTunes will break in two: Turn the desktop app into a content player for music, movies, tv shows and podcasts. Merge the store and content/device management with iCloud.com.

For a long time now every update to iTunes has been worse than the one before, but 12 has been by far the worst: they just completely ruined it for no apparent reason, making it more difficult and annoying and less intuitive to do anything including buy and play music.

I find it easy easy enough to use but I know from complaints that I'm in a minority. Also, trying to managed synced content to my iPhone doesn't feel easy or simple.
