I do web development, so I get large chunks on money at a time, but all this was pieced together over time. I had the 20" Dell monitor when it first came out, at the time was $560. Then I bought another 20" Dell monitor when I saw it for $400, I thought I was the coolest. Then I broke down and bought the Dell 30" LCD for $1560 on ebay, shipped. Then I bought the MacBookPro with 2 GB ram (my first mac), but then the MacPro came out, cheaper and twice as fast and it supported more monitors, so I sold the MacPro like a month after I got it for $1000+a 30" Apple Display. thats why I have 1 Dell 30" and 1 Apple 30". Id prefer the Dell, I like them much better than the Apple display. The apple display tilts forward and back, thats it. And the cord is really lame (if your using it to plug into a laptop), all the cables are wrapped into 1 cord, then they give you like 5 inches to plug in everything at the end. Which mean if your plugging it into a Laptop, the power brick needs to rest on your desk instead of the floor... AND it has a BRICK... the Dell doesnt. The dell tilts the same way the Apple does but in addition to that, it raises and lowers vertically, and swivels left to right. And it has a Card read built into the side of the monitor. And I can mount a sound bar under the dell monitor. And its cheaper. And the image burn is less on the dell than on the apple.

Im planning on Selling the Apple display on ebay and getting another dell, all i want to sell it for is $1600 so i can get the dell one.

The mac pro was 2499 with student discount and the 2 video cards. Ram was 200 for 1GB, and 500 gb hd's are 200.





Well, I grew up on Windows, and I think im sticking with it. To be honest, OS X is quite slow. The programs I use for web development on a daily basis is HomeSite, Paint Shop Pro, and SecureFX. I can replace SecureFX with Transmit on the Mac, but PSP and HomeSite just are irreplaceable to me. I tried switching to Photoshop and Dreamweaver, but it is SOOOOO slow on the Mac, probably because it uses Rosetta to run. I know dreamweaver and photoshop just as well as homesite and psp, but the speed is what counts.

The whole reason I even bought a mac is cause I have an HD video camera, and editing in Final Cut Pro in HDV is amazing, blows the PC away!!!!!

I also have a nice Dell Laptop i used to use on a regular basis, but Im not one to have multiple computers, i need all my data to be in the same place at the same time, and Im not a fan of external hard drives, too slow for me. Im all about response time.

My kind of man you and i think alike 90% of the time when it comes to tech. I do like OSX and switched mainly cos i was bored of windows. OSX is just a little slow compared to XP and requires more resources. Also not a fan of external HDD, extra load and slower.

Also contemplating a Dell display over an ACD.....just more function over form to an ACD at least for my usage.

LOVE your setup! It's not modest and not over embellished. I love the wall-mounted speakers. My panel is wall mounted, but you hid your cables it looks like. Nonetheless, your setup is very cool.
How is that logitech keyboard? I've been contemplating it. I have the mx-1000 laser and the BT apple, but I love logitech keyboards.

I feel like posting a "How to hide your cords" thread. Mine are just all over the place and no matter how much I try to hide them they are still in full view and makes for a very messy desk 🙁
 
Here's my setup:

300GB, 400GB and 500GB hard drives

The dual 1.8Ghz G5 in the pic is my outgoing Mac, going to my neighbor who has alzheimers.

Going right to left is my Epson 740 (old but still gets the job done) with it's Egghead cover, Wallstreet Powerbook G3 266, my Keyspan FrontRow remote (RF receiver is plugged into the monitor), my 30GB 5G iPod, Dell 2005FPW 20", Canopus ADVC-100 and my Fantom Drives 500GB external on top of the MacPro.

On the keyboard tray is my Kinesis ergonomic keyboard (model 110) and my Logitech Mx-1000.

Pretty easy to use once you get used to it. LOL Here's a shot of the layout from Kinesis:

It's not ergonomic in just shape (like the M$ and Adesso ones) but in key placement too. On other keyboards, keys like return and backspace are on the right side so you really have to stretch with your pinky (your weakest finger) to get to them.

With the kinesis, the backspace key is right near the left thumb and the return key is near your right thumb. So you don't have to stretch to reach them and your hands never leave the home keys, so it helps with typing speed too.

It does take some practice, when I first got it, I kept hitting the ' key because I had been trained in my keyboarding class that that was where the return key was. Took me about 3 days to get fully acclimated with the layout. Once you do, your typing speed actually goes up.

That's what the Wallstreet is for. 😉 It's pretty weird to me, but I can just go back and forth on the kinesis or a regular keyboard now. I'm a bit more cramped on a regular, but that's the only difficulty.

Jessica, thanks for the comment. i actually love the logitech keyboard so much more than the apple bluetooth keyboard... its so programmable and the mouse is so much better than the might mouse with end up breakin gon me damn scroll ball...

I tried that keyboard at a friends house and did not like it. It was awkward. I guess if I really tried I could get used to it though

I got the Apple 30" monitor on a trade, im going to list it on ebay this week and then buy another dell 30" monitor . So then ill have all dells. I eventually want to mount the 2 20" above the 30"s

Yeah it's awkward at first, when I first got it, I thought the... y key I think it was was broken. I kept hitting it with what I thought was a sufficient amount of force but I was hitting it at the wrong angle or something. As I got used to it, it got easier and I never had that problem again.
