I'm about to get my brand new MBP in the mail and was wondering the best way to make it individual on a budget with little technical experience. I've seen some MBPs with interesting artistic designs on the back of the screen and was wondering where to buy those. Not a full color stick or anything like that, just the simple white design. For example, Kevin Rose's MPB with the DIGG logo etched in or the Ad MBP with all the different companies names etched in. I want something simple and stylish like that, only more artistic and less advertising (e.g. no words).

I think those are laser engravings. You will probably have to go find a metal shop or something that does that sort of thing. Probably quite expensive.

I did some searching and found this company out in NY.

$100 for laptop etching and $30 for small device (ipod, phone, etc.) etching.

some laser etched notebooks I had bookmarked from digg:

Although its merely aesthetic...I'm sure somewhere in the fine print that might void your warranty?

Im too busy right now (and for the rest of the day) to wait on hold with Apple, but someone NEEDS to call and find out if it voids the warranty or not.

Um, if you want to do it to your computer, YOU need to call apple and get that information from them. If you're too busy...do it when you're not. Yeesh.

I just talked to them, and they said to contact AppleCare, witch I'm too lazy to do...
But if it doesn't void the warranty, I might actually do something like this to my macbook pro (when I finally get it)

I was thinking about doing that to my MBP, my step father works at a laser engraving place. Hope it does not void the warranty.

I was saying that not just for myself, but for everyone else that is looking to get it done. No need to argue anymore.

you could also try these guys,

never thought of doing this, but after seeing some of the examples i think i may give it a go.

will have to consider the design very very carefully. after all it like a tattoo for your laptop.

exactly, but at my job a friend of mine in the same room has the same exact laptop...so I would like a way to tell them apart. PS: Im writing this from my MBP which just arrived in the mail today. Everythings great though I did notice one dead pixel. darn, i dont think they do anything about one but there are certain things that suppose to fix that. I just hat to think of sending my laptop out again for god knows how long.

Don't stand for that see what you can do.

Are you talking about something kinda like this?

It took like $5 in plexiglass, my dremel, a sticker, some blue paper and glue.
