Apple generally set the standards...they're the leaders, not the followers...

However, I do think a 32GB touch soon is almost necessary to get it off its feet. 32 is the golden spot, as many people want more than 16, but are desperate for touch...

I don't soubt that apple could've come out with 32GB at a reasonable price point when the bought out the touch. I think we will see 32GB soon enough and it will drive sales, I for one would consider it and it would mean that an updated iPhone going to 16GB would fit well in the range.

Well according to engaget the creative version is only $320 which is grand... I'd pay that

If they doubled the storage for the touch and the iPhone, I'd have a tough time choosing which to get...a VERY tough time...

If they do 32GB touch, why not 32GB iPhone as well? and are those wireless earphones on the Zen?

yea...a 32gb is my buying point. I really don't want to settle for anything less than what i currently have.
C'mon Apple!!!

Would they dare upgrade the capacity of the Touch so soon after Christmas? Remember how long 8Gb was the maximum capacity of the Nano's (and still is)...

Obviously I hope they do as I'm not sure if 16GB is enough of a capacity jump from my 8GB Nano which I only got last xmas to justify £270, even if it does do a whole load of other stuff.

Sometime they will need to update the Flash memory based iPods to stay competitive and spur sales.

The Touch has a lot of growth potential feature wise. So it would make sense to increase the Flash memory sooner than later.

I see an announcement towards the end of MWSF, where it is mentioned that the Nano and Touch have memory upgrades, along with some new features.

I'm waiting for a 32Gb, hopefully at Macworld in January. I've got a 40Gb 4G and a 2Gb nano, 32Gb is close enough to 40 for it to replace my 4G. Here's hoping!

again, if the iPod Touch gets 32GB, why not the iPhone as well?

The reason the capacity of the iPhone lags behind the touch is that they both use basically the same motherboard. The touch has two slots used for memory - currently the 16GB has 2 x 8GB cards and will presumably go to 2 x 16GB cards in the future. The iPhone uses one of the slots for the baseband modem so can only currently support 1 x 8GB card and when the 16GB cards come out it will support 1 of those.
The alternative would be a complete re-design of the iPhone's internals which may happen at some time but I'd guess the capacity will lag behind the iPod touch for some time yet.
