So, right now im currently thinking about buying the Iphone 3g. Im currently under a family plan, and i looked on the At&t site and it says under family plan that theres a 40 dollar thing for the family plan. Will it really only be 40 bucks? I heard from a couple of my friends that this is possible. So what would it be 30 dollars for the Dataplan and 10 dollars for the shared minutes. Cause i dont wanna pay 70 a month right now.

This is what I did i added a line to my family plan with 500 minutes. It costs me personally $30 for the data plan $10 for the addition of a line and $5 for 200 messages per month. $45 dollars a month for me personally, but thats added to what the rest of the family plan was.

Oh Sweet. Now i know this for sure, im probably gonna get it now. Thanks alot.

Huh? where do you guys see $40? The lowest I've seen in $50 for 550 min family plan.

Wait, do i have to have 2 iphones on the plan for the 40 dollar thing? Or can i just have my iphone, and the rest of the phones on the plan be regular phones?

If you already have a family plan, and you are upgrading a line or adding a new line it will only be $40 a month. don't look at those, thats only if you have a new iPhone only plan with 2 iPhones

If you get a regular AT&T family plan then any line can be what you want (iphone, regular phone, PDA, etc) for $9.99 + feature costs.

I did this. Added a line like a normal family plan ($9.99) then added the $30 iPhone plan (well, $35 because I got some text messages too).

Did this with the 1st iPhone too, as well as several phones before. The subsidy outweighs the EFT (cancellation fee).

how could the family plan be cheaper than the one person plan?

It's not. The $40 is the cost of adding a iphone to a existing family plan. I assume the OP's parents/spouse/girlfriend whatever pay for a family plan and make him pay for his line + his features.

Cause you are paying as a family not your self... my whole family plan adds up to about $135 a month. so if you are on your own you pay more, but with a family plan its more but split among eachother.

They are talking about the EXTRA cost for adding an iPhone to a family plan. The TOTAL costs are more than a single phone plan, but the INDIVIDUAL costs are less - basically because you are paying only $10 for the Voice part of the plan.

The family plans, iphone and non-iphone, assumes that you will have at least two lines, hence famliy otherwise you go with the individual plan. The $9.99 per additional line on the non-iphone family plan is for lines #3 through #5. The $39.99 per additional line on the iphone family plan is for lines #3 through #5.

Non-iphone family plan option 700 minutes:
First two lines = $69.99
Per additional line (up to 3 more non-iphones) = $9.99 each

Iphone family plan option 700 miutes:
First two lines = $129.99
Per additional line (up to 3 more iphones) = $39.99 each

If you only want one iphone, you go with the non-iphone family plan and just add $30.00 for the single iphone data plan. $69.99 + $30.00 = $99.99.
