This is a list of what the iPhone can do. Copy the previous comment before yours and add to the list ....

1) Phone
2) iPod (with videos) can play over speaker phone speaker
3) GPS (maps) - automatically search defaults to nearby restaurants & businesses
4) Internet (Google, Wikipedia, Yellow Pages, anything & everything on the internet)
5) push email (or at least you can check your email)
6) camera and photo album
7) 2.0 software (calendar, calculator, notepad, weather, stock quotes, App.Store)
8) full keyboard for text messaging - saves time and hassle of texting

9) Drop a pin on the GPS screen to remember where you parked your car.
10) YouTube
11) Bookmarks on homescreen. ..Many home screen pages and web clippings right on your home page for easy access and you can put your home screen(s) in any order you want.
12) When shopping, you can use it to compare prices and lookup product info.
13) Look up information about people without having to go home first. (from driver's license address GPS suggestion)
14) Settle debates and/or win bets, using Wikipedia or other reference.
15) Organize your life with the calendar and set reminders with alarms (never forget anything again).
16) Watch porn (for both guys and girls)
17) Use it as a paperweight to keep your papers from blowing away during a windy gust.
18) Monitor web cams (such as security cameras, when you are away from your home or business)

Rybold. Can I recommend you use the 1st post to update? that way it's much more accessible to read. Much easier than trudging through potentially a long thread :)

You'll be having fun sorting out the >600 odd Apps i'd imagine.. here's to crowd sourcing !

Good idea. I'll do that. I'm hoping that people are not going to list every single app. I have an iPhone and one of my friends is contemplating getting one but doesn't know if she will use it. So, I'm trying to create a list of what the iPhone does.
 
Say you are driving your co-worker home from the bar, because they are too drunk to drive. While in route said co-worker passes out. You can steal their ID to look up their address and use google maps to find their house.

This happened to me last night, and I was happy to have my iphone.
 
settle debates on wikipedia there and then. done this about 5 times in the last 4 days.

organise your life through the calendar

never be afk again ;)
 
You can use it as an iron, as long as you don't stick it in your pocket

Waste Time while waiting for something (appointment, ferry, train, plane, etc) by playing games from the App Store or watching Movies
Listening to Radio from nearly any streaming radio station in the World (and nearly all CBS Radio Stations in the US)
Listen to Pandora
Instant Messaging with AOL
Control iTunes on your computer from anywhere on your WiFi Network
Keep up-to-date on current events
Track your Stocks
Find out the local weather, so you know how to dress appropriately
Easily find places of interest, resturaunts, or where you are trying to go with Google Maps
Take quick, decient quality photographs whenever it suits you
Calculate your Fuel Economy
Work on Trigonometric Calculations
Work on Electronic Calcluations
Solve for 'X'
Take notes (I use it to keep track of local gas prices when driving, stopping to enter the data of course, then posting that info at GasBuddy when I'm done with my travels)
Act as a Modem for your Computer
