Alert sounds keep turning off! HELP!

My alert sounds keep going mute after each restart, I have to go to system preferences each time to turn it back up! It's annoying, does anyone know how to fix this or what I'm doing to trigger it?
 
such as the ones that you hear when u delete from the trashcan, it'll come back if i go to preferences and increase the volume of "alerts" but it would go to mute everytime i restart my macbook
 
I've had the MacBook for 2weeks. It's the aluminum one and thanks for the link I'll see if that works
 
That link is only for the startup sound, my problem is with the regular alerts such as iChat incoming msgs, trashcan sounds, and other alerts that get their column turned off. I cant seem to find the cause to it.

Have you thought about just giving Apple Care a call? I'm sure they'll be able to help...
