Prototype eMac

I mentioned that I have a prototype eMac in the Macbook Air prototype thread. I don't think this eMac is worth much, just something interesting to keep around.

Someone asked for pictures. So here they are




The label says:
Apple Prototype Development Support
MediMac
408-974-50XX (I don't know if I should post the whole phone #)
medimac.apple.com




System Profiler shows a regular eMac/700.
Serial number G82403JLNMV

It looks just like a regular eMac. As far as I can tell, there is no exterior difference.

It doesn't have an Aiport slot (tried to install one).

You know there's only 100 numbers that need to be tried to get the right one now. ;)

Heehee, if you PM me, I will send you the last two digits so it will save you some time.

I doubt it is fake, because the seller didn't mention it is a prototype, and I didn't notice it is a prototype. I only figured that it is not a regular model when I tried to install Airport and couldn't. Then I looked up the serial number and got "unknown model". Only after that, I noticed that medimac sticker.

I think it was produced in October 2002, so it is not the prototype for the original eMac. It is probably a testing machine for between 1st gen and 2nd gen.

I probably should do more research on it, and use a real digital camera (instead of iphone) next time for better photos.
 
I think some of the eMacs had Airport Extreme before the switch from the PowerMac chipset over to the iMac chipset.
 
I am actually posting from this eMac right now.

Some new observations

1. It has a Combo drive (stock has CD-ROM). PHILIP CDD5101. Under burning support, it says "Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)"
2. The serial number on the sticker, behind the drive door, matches the one in system profile.

So, so far, the differences are:
1. Serial #.
2. Airport slot.
3. Optical drive.
