Hi peeps,

I have a strange problem related to mounting.

When I pop in my USB memory card it does not show up anywhere.

Same if I mount a .sd2f via Toast.

Inserting DVD's works OK.

I remember that I once by mistake removed a mounted device from the Sidebar - and couldn't figure out how to get it back - so it's 90% related to this accident.

Any clue?

Thx.

Take a look in Disk Utility first to see if the volumes are being mounted at all. Otherwise you'll be in Finder -> Preferences to control what items show on the Desktop.

Check Computer view (from Finder, Go->Computer). Does it appear there? If it does, then the problem is a Finder sidebar preference that is easily fixed. In the Finder, go to Preferences, then Sidebar. Check the options you want.

No luck

Not appearing in Disk Utility.

Preferences of Finder looking OK.

Not appearing in Computer View.

Any other ideas?

There are two other possibilities.

1. The drive shows up in Disk Utility, but volumes within do not.
2. The drive does NOT show up in Disk Utility.

For case 1, the cause is usually a file system/partition scheme that Mac OS X doesn't understand.
For case 2, a hardware-level problem is the most common cause (i.e. the memory card isn't pushed in all the way, or the USB interface is disconnected, or... you get the idea).

Well..

Device is not showing up in Disk Utility.

Notice this goes for a memory stick that I have (which has been formatted using FAT32) AND for any .Sd2f file that I try to mount with Toast.

For the memory stick I have tried both USB ports on my MBP and there is no disconnect thingie on it.

For the .Sd2f file I'm just clueless.

Something is broken - and surely it must be software related.

What makes you sure that it must be software? Knowing this information will help narrow down the cause of your problem.

Well..

The fact that it's impacting both my memory stick and a disc image (.Sd2f)? The latter is not hardware.
